James P. "Poppy" Gray, 82, residing in Sandusky, passed away early Wednesday morning, January 9, 2025, at home after a brief illness.

Jim was born May 5, 1942, in Berea to the late James A. and Mildred (Stuhr) Gray.

Jim was a veteran of the Navy who proudly served his country. He retired from Tropicana Products in Bradenton, Florida, after 65 years as a truck driver, and in retirement, he worked for Corso's Flower & Garden Center. He volunteered for meals on wheels, enjoyed puttering in garage, playing the lotto, enjoyed classic cars especially El Caminos, summertime concerts, eating and spending time with his family and friends. He always entertained us with his great stories "occasionally" adding embellishments.

Jim is survived by his wife, Sylvia (Sevacko) Gray, whom he married January 12, 1979. He is also survived by his daughter, Melody Gladwell of Youngstown; stepdaughter, Heather Scheible of Sandusky; one granddaughter, Kierstin Gladwell; sister, Sharon Parker; two brothers, Danny and Greg Gray; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Jim had a great love for animals, especially the numerous dogs he had throughout his life, whom he adored.

In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by two brothers, Dean and Bill Gray.

At Jim's request, cremation will take place, and private family services will be conducted. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory will be assisting the family with arrangements.
