Margaret Kline Obituary

Margaret Mitchell Kline, 92, of Frederick, Maryland, died peacefully in her sleep Saturday, June 14, 2025. Margaret was the daughter of John and Jane Mitchell of Bayside, New York. Margaret was the wife of Richard R. Kline for 70 years and they had two children, Ralph I. Kline (Helen) and Lea K. Allen (Dennis). Margaret had four grandchildren, John Kline, Harry Kline, Emily Wroe and Maggie Wroe Rainaud and four great grandchildren. Three great grandchildren born to John and his wife Jenny: Reagan, Luke, and Andrew. One great granddaughter born to Harry and his wife Dana: Ruby Kline.

Margaret came to Frederick to attend Hood College where she met and married Richard. They both accomplished much for Frederick. Margaret was a founding partner of Frederick County Landmarks Foundation, a group that recognizes all of the historic properties in town and is responsible for the Schifferstadt Architectural Museum and the Betty Kramer House. Margaret preserved and kept the Barbara Fritchie Home as a museum open to the public for decades. She started the Community Commons, an environmentally conscience organization that brought educational programs to the city which include the wayside markers and things like the wayside markers along the beautiful Monocacy River.

Margaret served on the Boards of Hood College, Frederick Memorial Hospital, the Maryland State Planning Commission and more.

Margaret Mitchell Kline had many talents. She had an artistic sensibility that was seen in her homes, her gardens and her beautiful oil paintings. Her degree at Hood was a BS in food sciences and above all her cooking skills were 4 star. It all came together at wonderful events in her home where she and Richard hosted governors, Senators, Congressional Representatives, dignitaries and many, many friends.

The family will receive friends at Keeney and Basford Funeral Homes, P.A.. 106 E. Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701 on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 from 4 pm to 7 pm. Interment will be private.
