Robert Clingan Obituary

Robert Leo "Bob" Clingan, age 89, of Union Bridge, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center, following an extended illness.

Born on January 4, 1936, in Emmitsburg, Maryland, he was the son of the late Pius Leo Clingan and Ruth Simpson Clingan Oden.

Bob proudly served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Germany during the Korean War, and later in the Army Reserves during the Vietnam War. He was a dedicated member of American Legion Post 282 in Woodsboro.

A skilled and hardworking tradesman, Robert spent the majority of his career as a plumber with RW Warner. Beyond his professional life, he was an avid fisherman and especially enjoyed trips to Chincoteague Island. A lifelong enthusiast of small engines, he found joy in working on all types of riding tractors. He also held a deep affection for his beloved cats, Smoke and TT.

Bob is survived by his daughters, Shelly Clingan, Cheryl Clingan, and Julie Rice and her companion, John Stowers; his granddaughters, Christina Fogle and her companion, Brad Cannedy, Delaney Rice, and Kayln Rice; and his brothers, Kenneth Clingan and wife Anna, Charles Clingan, and Richard Clingan. He is also lovingly remembered by many special nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.

A respected and well-loved member of his community, Robert leaves behind many dear friends, including lifelong friends Joe Swann and Kevin Moore.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Pat Summers, Janet Fogle and infant Ethel Clingan; and by his brothers, Carl Clingan and John Oden.

The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home - Libertytown, 11802 Liberty Road, Frederick, on Wednesday, July 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, July 3, at 11 a.m., with Dwight Reynolds, Michael Strausbough, and Don Beyer, all members of the American Legion, officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Johnsville United Methodist Cemetery.
