Thomas Wachter Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas W. Wachter Sr., 80, of Lewistown, Maryland, on Monday, December 9, 2024 at Frederick Health Hospital from complications of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). Tommy is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Frani Jackson-Wachter.

Born on February 7, 1944 in New Market, MD, to Edna (Gue) and Meredith "Buck" Wachter He graduated from Linganore High Class of 1963.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Darren Wachter and wife Letitia; daughter, Tammy Turner and husband, Curtis; nephew, Rick Grimes; very compassionate loving-caring granddaughters Amanda (Robert) Workman, Lizz Miesner, and adoring great-grandchildren Scarlett Kira, Haven Brantley ;along with many additional grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Dick (Doris) and Rick (Roxanne) Wachter; sisters, Shirley (Larry) Beard, Gale Wachter, Sister-in-law Julie & Lori Wachter and Daughter-in-law Cathy Wachter, and his very best friends, Pete Lease, George Fields and Skeeter Wachter (Chief of LVFD).

Tommy was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Wachter Jr, siblings; David, Donald and Ronnie Wachter, Mary Jane Wiles, Nancy Stull and his best bud- (great grandson) Lane- who he is happy to be reunited with.

Tommy was a person known for his warmth, strength, and kindness. His laughter and generosity touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Tommy, though his battle with PSP was swift and challenging, he faced it with the same grace and determination that defined his life. Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, a rare and degenerative condition, brought its own set of challenges, but he never lost his sense of humor or his unwavering spirit. His family and friends were continually inspired by his ability to find peace and acceptance even in the face of adversity.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate and exceptional team at Hospice of Frederick County, whose dedication and care were a tremendous comfort to Tommy and his loved ones during his course of care. The hospice team provided not only expert medical care but also emotional and spiritual support, allowing Tommy to spend his last moments in peace and comfort. Their kindness and attention to every need will never be forgotten. A special Thank you to Gwen and April.

Tommy leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and the profound impact he had on those around him. He will be dearly missed by his family members, friends, and community, as he was a lifetime member and engine driver at New Market Vol. Fire Dept. for many years; a life member at Lewistown Vol. Fire Co.; and fire police with Frederick Co. Sheriff's Dept.

Tommy was an excellent role model for everyone. He was always smiling and lending a hand to anyone. He was of the United Methodist faith, and had a strong belief in God. He loved mowing, gardening and he was an all around handyman. He loved to tinker with anything and everything, even if it drove his wife crazy! Tommy's beautiful smile and blue eyes will be etched in our memories forever. He was adored by his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed especially by his wife, Frani.

The family will receive friends & family from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, December 15, 2024 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick.

A Fireman's Funeral will take place at 11:00 am on Monday, December 16, 2024, from the funeral home chapel. Rev. Tim May will officiate.

Interment will be held at Resthaven Memorial Garden and reception following at Lewiston Vol. Fire Department.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lewistown Vol. Fire Department.

Rest in peace, Tommy. You were loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
