A.D. Schuetz Obituary

HE HAS GONE "HOME" A.D. Hans Schuetz, beloved father and friend unexpectedly passed away to be with his Lord on February 1, 2007. He was born to Walter & Anna Schuetz in Bromberg Germany on April 8, 1916. His younger years were spent in and around Berlin, Germany. His first career was as a ship board photographer on the "Rotterdam" going between Hamburg and New York. In 1939, during the war in Europe, he was drafted into the German Army, where he also did photography and film work. He married Annamarie Block in 1940. In the last days of the war, he was captured near Berlin and spent 3 ½ years as a prisoner of war in Russia near the Volga River and the town of Saratov. On December 13, 1951, he moved his family to Colorado Springs with the help of a contact he had made in New York who was now living in Colorado Springs. He later started Schuetz Construction and built many custom homes, condos and commercial projects around Colorado Springs with his son, Hans Michael Schuetz. He retired in 1992. He was a founding member of the German American Cultural Society in Colorado Springs. His retirement allowed him to write his memoirs of his time in prison, "Tell Em" which is in print in 3 Languages: English, German and Russian. His retirement also provided more time in the Word and more time to share his love of the Lord with others. He is preceded in death by his brother, Walter Schuetz; wife of 57 years, Annamarie; son, Jan Michael Schuetz; grandchildren, Christopher Hans and Kevin Michael Schuetz; and his second wife Ann. Because of his love of the Russian people, he made numerous trips to that country. Over the years, he befriended many people there and was instrumental in sending a group of their children to Kiel, Germany for education purposes. His most recent trip was just 6 months ago. He will be greatly missed by his son Hans Michael and daughter-in-law, Patricia Ann and all the good friends that shared prayer and study time together. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hans Schuetz Russian Children Memorial Fund: Bank at Broadmoor, C/O Nelda, 155 Lake Ave. Colorado Springs, CO 80906. A celebration of Hans' life will be held at the Grand Ballroom at Glen Eyre Castle 3820 N 30th St Colorado Springs, CO 80904 1:00 PM Thursday February 8, 2007

GACS 25th Anniversary Celebration

February 21, 2007

Emma Purinsh

February 21, 2007

In behalf of Emma Purinsh and family, our sincere condolences on the passing of Hans. As families we have known each other longer than most, beginning as neighbors in the early 1950’s at Husted. Hans and Alex were colleagues at Modern Home Builders; later they collaborated in the remodeling of the GACS (German-American Cultural Society) clubhouse. As active members of GACS, we enjoyed all the various social functions together over the years. Some photos of happy times are posted. Our friendship of more than a half-century was much valued throughout the years.
In Sympathy and Remembrance,
Ilga (Purinsh) Ross for Emma Purinsh

I knew Mr. Schuetz only a short time and regret having such limited opportunies to hear his wisdom during Bible study, yet I am forever blessed by having known him.
I am thankfull for that priviledge to hold onto Han's hand and to read to him a few of the many highlighted verses from his well worn New Testament as we waited for loved ones to come to comfort him at his hospital bedside. Hans lived in the light and that light shone through him.
Hans walked the talk through all adversities. Thank you Hans.

Dear Hans,

Although you are now on the other side my heart aches to know I shall not see you on a regular basis.

You were my dearest and sweetest neighbor, a kind friend and always the consummate gentleman.

My children adore you. To have had you as a guest at our Holiday table shall always remain a fond memory. Your quick wit, great sense of understanding and perfect manners did not go unnoticed.

Rasmuss and Uli Reisch from Kitbuehl truly enjoyed your company and conversation this past Christmas Eve. They wish again to Thank You for gifting them with your book, your story.

Hans, enjoy your family and friends as you are now a vibrant and healthy spirit, once again so very close to those you love and cherish.

Today you are truly blessed.

Our Love,
Valentina, Misty, Nicolina and Zachery

What a privilege it has been to call Hans my friend. I first got to know Hans as my employer in 1979 when, through a contact with a mutual friend, he gave a newly married and jobless guy a break and hired me as part of his building crew. Everything Hans did was influenced by his love for his Savior, Jesus Christ, and by his love of people. As I got into my own business, he was a mentor and advisor. As the years passed, we saw less and less of each other, but much of who I am today is due to the influence of Hans Schuetz on my life. Like many, I can say I am truly blessed to have known him. Romans 5:1-2 says, “Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through Him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” Our sincerest condolences and prayers to Hans Jr. and Pat.

Hans was a dear friend, mentor, brother, and co-believer who helped me and many other fellow believers with his God-given and dynamic faith. He was a very special friend to my children and even my grand-children! Our youngest grand-daughter, Zion, age 6, when we told her Hans went to Heaven, her comment was "that's nice, but I'll miss eating oatmeal and blueberries with him!" Hans and I spent many wonderful hours together in God's Word. He was a Bible scholar with many life experiences that we can all learn from! Hans and Annemie were able to come to Wisconsin a number of times and he was making plans to come and visit again this spring, but his heavenly Father had other plans for him. As I said to Gretchen, "who will I call now?" Our sincerest condolences to his son and daughter-in-law. Our great comfort is that he is now where he had always hoped to be, and that is at home with his Lord! I will miss him deeply!

We
met weekly for Bible Study and breakfast for over 10 years. I learned
what it means to realy Live from Hans. He had us studying 1 John 2:15 -
17, that I hope I am studying when I am also called home, "Love not the
world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the
world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the
world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride
of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world
passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God
abideth for ever." I will miss him, but know that he will live on as we
share what God taught us through Hans - 2 Tim 2:2.

Hans was a great friend of my parents and an inspiration to me. I was blessed enough to have known Hans for my entire life. His love for life and people in general, was just amazing. The life he lived was full and most of us will never experience the horrible things that he did. Yet, Hans always had such a positive outlook on things and never once did he complain about the way things were. Thanks for everything Hans. We'll never forget you!

Not only was Hans a great neighbor, he was a good friend. I live in one of the houses he built - and built very well, I might add. I feel blessed to have known such an honest and decent person. I was always amazed how positive a person he was, especially considering all the trials and tribulations of his life. He truly saw the positives of every experience -- he had the best in life because he always made the best of what life gave him. He was (and will continue to be) a wonderful example for us all.
Hans seemed immortal -- I thought he'd be around forever. But I know he had a full and fruitful life, and he left his mark on many in this world. I am
greatful to have known him.

I think Hans did the custom cabinets in our home on Rocklawn Circle. Did he work with Don Price in 1967? He was a very gracious craftsman. I was blessed to hear of his love for Jesus. May you all continue in his spiritual heritage.

Dear Family,
I know that you will miss him (we all will) but I also know that JESUS has welcomed him home. Would that we all can join them and rejoice in the reunion.
