Bud was born Feb. 12, 1927 to Dr. Louis and Jesse Puritt McMaster.

Bud graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School where he excelled at baseball and football. Immediately following graduation from high school he joined the Air Force and served in WWII, being stationed in Guam. After the war Bud and many of his high school teammates matriculated at Centre College of Kentucky. At Centre they made up the bulk of the baseball and football teams, and they remained lifelong friends.

Bud was actively involved in many community organizations. He served as King Lion of the Fairview Lions Club, president of the Fairview Jaycees, a deacon of the Fairview Presbyterian Church, and was a charter member of the Erie Runners Club. Bud was also an active member of Lake Shore Country Club and the Aviation Club.
