Agnes Barilovich Obituary

Agnes Andersen Barilovich, 83, passed away peacefully of natural causes in her home on June 28, 2015. Agnes was born on October 31, 1931 in Trondheim, Norway to parents, Johan and Anne Andersen. She was the fifth of six children; one brother (Hjalmar) and four sisters (Anny, Helene, Hjordis, and Eva). She was especially proud of her older brother Hjalmar who was a three time Gold medalist in speed skating in the 1952 Winter Olympic games held in Oslo, Norway.

She met and married her husband Peter who was in the U.S. Army and stationed at the U.S. Embassy in Oslo, Norway. After their first child was born they moved back to the U.S. where she shared the adventures of being a military spouse for over 30 years until her husband's retirement in 1974. While in the military she lived in Ft. Dix, NJ; Ft. Polk, LA; Addis Abba, Ethiopia; Ft. Lewis, WA; Schofield Barracks, HI; Darmstadt, Germany; Saugus, CA and Ft. Carson, CO.

While living around the world she enjoyed volunteering with the American Red Cross and was awarded the Commanders Award for Public Service Medal from the U.S. Army for her life-long service to that organization. She was an active member of the local Sons of Norway, Fjellheim Lodge for 40 years and served twice as a Lodge Delegate to the National Convention.

She enjoyed playing bridge and actively played weekly with a local club. She enjoyed traveling with friends and alone and visited many cities and countries. Time spent with friends and especially family were an important part of her life.

She is survived by three children, Helen Ann (Mike), John (Cheryl) and Mark (Ann). She was Bestemor to nine grandchildren and Oldemor to four great-grandchildren, whom she adored.

There will be a memorial service and life celebration on July 14, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at the Sons of Norway, Fjellheim Lodge, located at 1045 Ford Street, Colorado Springs.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the American Red Cross or the Wounded Warrior Project.
