Al Oerter Obituary

Al Oerter, legendary Olympic 4-time discus gold medalist passed away Monday, October 1st, 2007. His wife Cathy, daughters Gabrielle Oerter and Crystiana Beardslee along with his three grandchildren, Alex, Cassie and Geoffrey loved him deeply and were honored to share their lives with him. Al will be remembered as a kind, gentle, inspirational and unassuming man. When people met him, his Olympic feats were overshadowed by his gracious manner and optimistic yet realistic view of life. Al's passion for a World Headquarters for Olympian Artists is being established as his legacy to promote the original Olympic Ideal of excellence in life. "If we strive to be the best we can be each day, we can do some wonderful things in this world." Al Oerter. A memorial service to celebrate Al's life will be held Friday, October 19th, 1:00 pm at the First Christian Church, 2061 McGregor Blvd, Ft. Myers, Florida 33919, 239-334-0316.
