Alan Laurie Obituary

In Loving Memory of Puppet Master Alan "Al" D. Laurie May 18, 1956 - January 30, 2007. Born in Aguna Guam, Alan eventually landed in Santa Barbara, California where his first giant puppet, made in celebration of summer solstice, was born. Whether celebrating life or making political statements, Alan's puppets have marched their way from California to our nation's capital. Because of Amendment 2, Colorado was asked to lead the march on Washington DC in the movement for equal rights. Alan's "Preacher Puppet" lead Colorado. When informed the "Preacher" could not carry a bible Alan responded "no problem". The title of the book in the "Preacher's" arm was changed from "Bible" to "Judgement." The parades and the movement will march by now without Alan. He leaves behind family and friends who will miss him until the end of their time...and he leaves behind the statements, love, and celebration of life which will speak to us forever through his incredible art. We love you Alan. "All that we love deeply becomes part of us.".

Oh, Al...I missed you by so many years. Wish I had tried earlier now that so much information is available these days. Hope you have managed to cross paths with Jef in whatever comes after. I see you there for so many good times. The parades, tequila at the Loop, your fabulous birthday party, your presence as a rarely-ever-there roomate. Thanks for all the smiles.

Jo--So sorry for your loss. Alan sounds like he was a very interesting guy who died MUCH too soon. Jean Stepp
