Albert Horne Obituary

Albert Horne, 88, passed away on April 15, 2016.

Albert was born October 7th, 1927 in Rocky Mountain, North Carolina to Albert and Prudence Horne. He remembers his father working for the railroad where he shared with his son that hard work and dedication will provide for you in life…along with a good education. That was the key to success. With those words etched in his mind Albert joined the military on October 3, 1946. He started his career with the military at Pope Field, North Carolina as a draftsman. One of Albert's many accomplishments was the mapping of Greenland. He was instrumental in providing information about a foreign place. He finished his military career in 1948 and received a WWII Victory Medal.

On October 18th, 1947 in his home town of Rocky Mountain, North Carolina he married the love of his life Joyce Daniel. They were married for 69 years. In their union they had one daughter, Danielle (Mike) Moon who lives in Silvercliffe, Colorado. There is one grandchild, Katie (Matty) Brenner, and a step-granddaughter and two great-grand-daughters. Also survived by a sister Sylvia (Stan) Langley and relatives in North Carolina.

Albert continued his education and became a Professional Engineer. He was employed with the city and county government Denver for 20 plus years. Upon his retirement and full of energy Albert decided to ride his bike across the country. Starting at Bellingham, Washington he rode to West Scarbrough, Maine; taking the Northern route which brought him to his destination a little over 3 months. He loved every minute of this….it was deep in his heart.

Albert knew no stranger. Along his travels he adopted many individuals who touched his heart and created lasting memories. They too will never be forgotten. I will never forget you Albert. You will always be the love of my life. My best friend and faithful companion. Love you always Joyce. As Albert was known for saying "I did it my way."
