Albert Keuhlen Obituary

Al was born in Newark, NJ to Albert E. and Marie C. Keuhlen. He graduated from St. Benedicts Prep School in 1942 and enlisted in the Navy. Al was a plank owner of the submarine USS Sea Fox (SS402) and served 4 war patrols aboard her in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. He was a member of the Southern Colorado Sub Vets and proudly remembered his shipmates at the Sub Vet Memorial dedication at Memorial Park. Al and Dora Montini met as teenagers and were married November 23, 1946 in Bloomfield, NJ. They have seven children: Phil (Susie), Chris, Rosemary (Ken), Dan (Lisa), Susie (Jim), Joe (Mary Jo) and Larry. They have 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. They were married 64 years. Al was a tool and dye maker by trade and his handiwork was utilized on board the Saturn 5 Rocket and Lunar Excursion Module and went to the moon in 1969. As an assistant Scout Master, he led BSA Troop 3 (Glen Ridge, JN) on myriad camping and canoeing adventures. He was a member of the Order of the Arrow. In 1970, Al and Dora moved the family to Colorado Springs. They never regretted it. He served as a volunteer with the Wescott Fire Protection District rising to the rank of Assistant Chief. After his retirement, he served as an active member on their board. Al was an avid outdoors man and loved fall hunting with sons and good friend Rigg. Dad gave us the gift of family and was proud of all his children. He is survived by his wife Dora and their seven children, his sisters Mary Egan and Sr. Mary Alberta. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Bernard. Visitation will be held on Tuesday September 7, 2010 from 3:00-7:00 at Mountain View Mortuary. Mass of Christian burial will be on Wednesday September 8, 2010 at 10:00 am at St. Patrick Catholic Church. With burial at Fort Logan National Cemetery. To Al's family. Al was one of my chiefs when I was with Wescott Fire, and I admired him for his ability to direct the men and women under his command and feel that he was a great man. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. I know God has a place for him in his kingdom.
God Bless all of you. Mike Collins - Board President and Department Chapalin -Falcon Fire Protection Department.
