Alberta Wieser Obituary

Sister Alberta Wieser, OSF, dies at 83 Colorado Springs. Sister Alberta Wieser, O.S.F., 83, a Sister of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration for 67 years, died peacefully at Mount St. Francis Nursing Center in Colorado Springs on October 19, 2016.

Sister Alberta (Alice Rose) Wieser was born on November 15, 1932 in rural Humphrey, NE to Vincent and Wilamina (Kopetzky) Wieser. She is survived by sister, Elaine Swanson and brothers, Ken (Judy) Wieser and Jerome (Helen) Wieser; sister-in-law, Dolores Wieser and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Leander, Charles, Albert, Francis and Glenn, and sisters Mary Ann Micek and Irene Fuchs.

She entered the Sisters of St. Francis in Denver, receiving the Franciscan habit on August 12, 1949 and professing her final vows in 1956. Sister Alberta attended St. Joseph College on the Rio Grande in Albuquerque, NM receiving a BA degree in History. Later she attained her MA degree from Creighton University in Omaha, NE.

Sister Alberta taught all grade levels, and at times was also principal, in schools in NE (Columbus and Humphrey), KS (Emporia), NM (Zuni Mission, Jemez Pueblo, Cuba and Lumberton), CO (Denver-Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Mary Magdalene). She was involved in parish ministry in Gallup, NM. In Colorado Springs she taught ESL to Korean and Vietnamese people and ministered at the Korean Catholic Community. At Mount St. Francis Nursing Center she worked at the switchboard and later ministered in Pastoral Care to the residents. She initiated the Morning Prayer over the loud speaker. She participated in the Sisters' Companion program.

The rosary will be prayed for Sister Alberta in the Mount St. Francis Nursing Center chapel at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 23, with a Vespers and Wake Service held in Canticle Chapel at Mount St. Francis at 5:15 p.m. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 24 in St. Francis of Assisi Parish Church followed by burial in the Mount St. Francis Cemetery.
