Alden Birkelo Obituary

Alden Richard Birkelo was born on March 30, 1929 to C.P. and Jennie Birkelo in Mayville, ND. He graduated Mayville high school in 1947 and was a graduate of the Minnesota School of Business. In June of 1952 he married the love of his life, Delores Bensen. Alden served in the United States Air Force for twenty years and received many awards, including the Bronze Star for service in Vietnam. He retired in 1971 and has since been self-employed as an accountant.

Alden was a member of the First Presbyterian church where he served as a deacon, usher and as President and Treasurer of the Christian Heirs and Ambassadors Sunday school classes. He also volunteered at the Marian House Soup Kitchen for several years.

Alden will be remembered by friends and family for his kindness to everyone, his deep faith and his sense of humor. He leaves behind his wife, Delores, of 64 years, his two sons, Malcom (Leslie) of Phoenix, AZ, and Mark (Anne) of Colorado Springs, CO, Becky in Longmont, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Alden was preceded in death by his parents, two sons Richard and David, two brothers, Donald and Walter, and a sister, Judith.

A memorial service will be held on Monday August 22nd 2016, 1pm at First Presbyterian Church at 219 E. Bijou St. Colorado Springs CO. 80903. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Deacons Fund of First Presbyterian Church or to the Dale House, 24 East Dale Street, Colorado Springs, CO.
