Alexander Sutherland Jr , beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, went home to the Lord November 14,2011. Born July 17, 1926, in Avoca, PA, Alexander Jr was the son of Alexander and Emeline (Milligan) Sutherland Sr . His family moved to Bremerton, WA in 1942, where Alex completed high school and started college. He served in the US Army from 1944-46 and later in the National Guard. Alexander was united in marriage to Geraldine Wilkening on 11/18/51. He completed an electrician apprenticeship at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton, where he then worked as an Electrician and Nuclear Inspector for 36 years. After retirement, Alex worked for the Bremerton Sun newspaper until his move to Colorado Springs, CO in 1993. In CO he worked as a crossing guard for Prairie Hills Elementary School and Timberview Middle School and as a Rocky Mt. Sports Official umpire. Alex was an avid baseball fan and participated for many years as player, coach, umpire, and spectator. He was an active member of Academy Christian Church and the Golden Eagles. He worked with Boy Scouts of America and coached youth baseball for many years. Alex enjoyed long walks, Bible study, listening to Country, Gospel and other music, comedy shows and books on tape, gardening, and spending time with friends and family. Alexander is survived by his wife Geraldine; sons Alexander III(Joanne) of Sedro Woolley, WA and James of Brigham City, UT; daughter Joyce (Ron) Hahn of Colorado Springs; 5 grandchildren: Elisa (Jason) LaBenne, and Joshua, Steven, Rachel and Matthew Hahn; sister Betty (Elmer) Elliott; brother Paul (Eloise) and many nieces and nephews. Alex is predeceased by a son, Steven, his parents, 2 brothers and a sister. A Memorial Service will be at 11:00am on Wednesday 11/23 at Academy Christian Church, 1635 Old Ranch Rd, Colorado Springs.
