Alfred Brown Obituary

Alfred C. "Al" Brown, age 90, quietly passed into His Father's world on Sunday, June 17, 2012. Al was born in Kansas City, Missouri on October 20, 1921. Very soon he moved with his parents, Mary and Paul, to Greenfield, Indiana. It was a happy, hard-working Quaker family. Al has a sister, Martha Rowell, a brother Bob and his wife Thelma, and a now deceased brother Howard and his wife Shirley. They gave us wonderful nieces and nephews. Al's sister-in-law, Louise Herron, and two deceased brother's-in-law, Richard and David Grabhorn also left us wonderful children. What a great family! During the process of sending all four children to college, the Brown family moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where Al met Wilma. They both attended Butler University and graduated in 1944. In September 1944 they married. It was a very happy union that lasted 67 years! Al served in the Army almost two years in Europe during World War II. Later it became apparent that there would be no children. After various jobs, Al became the treasurer of the United Christian Missionary Society, Disciples of Christ Christian Church. In 1976, Al and Wilma moved to Pueblo West, Colorado. There he worked as office manager for the Metropolitan District of Pueblo West. Retirement beckoned and it was time for golf, traveling and having fun. Colorado Springs and the Village of Skyline became that final home in June 1991. Al was active on many committees at the Village. He took part as deacon and elder and as class treasurer at First Christian Church. He soon became known as a true gentleman. Al's memorial service will be Wednesday, July 18, at 1:30PM at the Village at Skyline. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Skyline Cares Fund, Village at Skyline, or to the First Christian Church, 16 East Platte Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80903.
