Allen Ray Smith, 87, returned to the waiting arms of his sweetheart on January 3, 2021, after a short illness. He resided in Colorado Springs since 1964.
Allen was born in 1933 in Mt. Pleasant, Utah, to Sherman & Olive Smith. He had one sister and two brothers, one of whom survives him. In Mt. Pleasant he met and married his childhood sweetheart and eternal companion, Mary Ann.
Allen graduated at the top of his class at Utah State College, and went on to a career as an electrical engineer. He worked 38 years for Hewlett-Packard, first in Palo Alto, CA, for eight years, then in Colorado Springs, retiring in 1993 as the Division Quality Assurance Manager.
Allen was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints throughout his life and served diligently in many church callings. He also gave his time to service organizations in Colorado Springs.
He is survived by his five sons: Larry, Mark (Pam), David (Tracie), Craig (Kathy), and Brent (Dana), 16 grandchildren, and 35 great grandchildren.
A private family service will be held Saturday, January 9, 2021.

What a faithful and influential man he was! It was heartwarming to see how impressively his memory was honored by the fine sons he and Mary Ann raised as well as by their posterity featured in the video. Having spent a lot of time in the Smith’s home as a youngster and having experienced his fatherly influence in various sacred settings, I know he will be missed but do not doubt that he accomplished the needed mortal preparations for eternal life in exemplary fashion. My condolences to the Smith family on their loss of a beloved patriarch.
