Alta Paul Obituary

Alta Paul, 59, passed away February 21st. Born Alta Marie Bollinger in Cape Girardeau, MO, she was raised in Granite City, IL. Alta began playing piano at age 7 and was active in Girl Scouts. She received a teaching scholarship to Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, majoring in music education. Viola was her principal instrument. After graduation and marriage in 1971, she played and taught music for several years until arthritis forced her to change careers. Alta returned to school, earning a BS in computer science from University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and an MS with honors in Information Management from George Washington University. She held various positions in private industry, Patent and Trademark Office and Department of Defense. She retired in November 2007 as Chief of the Change and Configuration Management Branch and Deputy Chief of the Colorado Springs Area Office of the Western Continental US Region, Defense Intelligence Agency. A seven year resident of Woodland Park, Alta was an active member of St David of the Hills Episcopal Church, often playing the piano and organ for services. She enjoyed bridge, golf, sewing and camping, and was a member of the Woodland Park Wind Symphony. Preceded in death by her mother Martha, she is survived by her husband Col (Ret) Byron S (Rusty) Paul, III, daughter SSgt Andrea Paul, father Bill Bollinger and brother Mark Bollinger. A memorial service will be held at the Mountain View United Methodist Church, 1101 Rampart Range Rd, Woodland Park at 2pm Saturday, March 15. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either the Alta Paul Memorial Fund at St David's Church, 36 Edlowe Rd, Woodland Park, CO 80863 or the Woodland Park Wind Symphony, c/o Craig Harms, PO Box 331, Woodland Park, CO 80866.

Dear Alta, I will miss you. You were among the very best employees I ever had, and you were a dear friend. I was always amazed by your incredible talents and competency. We had so much in common (Cape Girardeau, Colorado) and I was looking forward to visiting you in Colorado some day soon. My heart goes out to Rusty and Andrea.
