Alvin Neugebauer Obituary

Alvin "Al" George
Neugebauer
May 8, 1939
July 7, 2024

Alvin George Neugebauer departed this earthly life on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at the age of 85, after a short battle with cancer.

Alvin was born on May 8, 1939, to George and Leona Neugebauer of Parkston, SD. After graduating from Parkston High School, he married his high school sweetheart, Joan Ann Gukeisen, on May 24, 1957. The couple initially settled in Parkston, but soon left the town when Alvin enlisted in the Air Force.

His Air Force career included assignments at Wichita Falls, TX; Charleston, SC; Goose Bay, Labrador; Fort Worth, TX; Plattsmouth, NE; Honolulu, HI; and Colorado Springs, CO, where the Neugebauer family settled after Alvin retired from the Air Force in 1978.

Alvin's post-military career began at Honeywell. Within a couple of years, though, he changed careers to work in both insurance and real estate, before returning to technical pursuits with Geodynamics. After earning a bachelor's degree in business administration from Regis College in 1985, Alvin began working for Martin Marietta in space launch systems. He continued in this career until he "retired from the corporate world" in 1999.

After his second retirement, Alvin continued to work freelance as a handyman, landscape designer/installer, and sprinkler system installer. He eventually became the property manager for the Coughlin family's estate in Cascade, taking care of upkeep and renovations at the estate until 2023.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joan Neugebauer of Colorado Springs; his son Jay Neugebauer of Colorado Springs; his son Delvin Neugebauer and daughter-in-law Jana Hyde Neugebauer of Everett, WA; his daughter Lori Fredrich of Colorado Springs; his granddaughter, Sydnie Stubblefield and grandson-in-law Eric of Leland, NC; and his grandson, Zach Fredrich of Aurora, CO, as well as five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Donna Fick of Allison, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his sister, Lorraine Vasquez of Longmont, CO.

A memorial service will be held for Alvin at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs on Sunday, July 14 at 2:00 pm. The family has asked that donations of remembrance be made to Pikes Peak Biker's Church (pikespeakbikerschurch.com).

Al was a walking wealth of knowledge, loved hearing his stories. What a wonderful God fearing Christian man who lived his wife and family and has been an inspiration to all who were blessed enough to know him. Prayers to his family. He will be truly missed.
