Ann (Gourlay) Hecox, 82, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on August 11, 2025, in Louisville, Colorado.
Born in Denver, Colorado, on January 8, 1943, Ann graduated from Colorado College in Colorado Springs with a major in Economics and a minor in Education. She taught elementary school in Oregon for two years before returning to Denver and working at First National Bank. She later taught kindergarten, English as a Second Language and adult education in Colorado Springs.
After marrying Walter Hecox in 1970, Ann became a loving mother to her two children, Sarah and Eric, and later grandmother to her four grandchildren. She had many opportunities to travel throughout the world and lived abroad for several years with her husband and two young children in Pakistan and later in Kenya; however, Colorado Springs remained her true home. Her greatest joy was exploring the southwestern United States with her husband in their early years, raising her two children and spending time with her four granddaughters. She loved the flowers, birds and beauty of the Colorado mountains. She was a well-loved member of The Reviewers, The Tuesday Afternoon Discussion Club, and was cofounder of Half The Sky Giving Circle. She found joy in sewing, quilting, baking and cherishing time with her family and friends.
Ann was welcoming and kind; her inclusive spirit made everyone who knew her feel valued. She will be remembered for her generosity, warmth, curiosity and dedication to her family and friends. She treasured meaningful conversations, in person and by phone, that kept her engaged in the lives of those she held dear.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Walter Hecox, her children, Sarah Knight (Roger) and Eric Hecox (Nilmini), and her four grandchildren: Priya Hecox, Meneka Hecox, Audrey Knight and Stella Knight. Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Jane Gourlay, and sister, Paula Jean Gourlay.
Her ashes will be spread in the Colorado mountains and interred in the columbarium at Montview Presbyterian Church in Denver. If you wish to honor Ann through a donation, the family suggests the following organizations that held a special place in her heart:
Doctors Without Borders, Half The Sky Giving Circle and Temple Grandin School, which empowers neurodivergent students.
