Anna Merry Obituary

Anna Marie Merry Nov 21, 1923 - June 27, 2006. Anna Marie Merry, 82, of Polo, IL passed away on Tuesday in the presence of her loving family and care givers following an extended illness. She was born the daughter of Arnold and Emily (Nutter) Heistad in Wittenberg, WI. She graduated from Stout State University. She had her first teaching job in Menomonee, WI. Anna Marie was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Polo, IL, St. Mary's Altar and Rosary Society, Illinois Retired Teacher's Association, "Golden Girls" Bridge Club and Holcyon. She contributed to multiple charities including the Polo Historical Society. As a teacher Anna Marie was nicknamed "The Butterfly Lady." The miraculous lifecycle of the Monarch butterfly was something she loved to share with her classes each year. Anna Marie loved to cook, sew, garden, entertain friends and look after her family. She was a devoted wife and mother and dedicated teacher. She loved babies, birds and the new life of each new Spring. Anna Marie is survived by her daughters: Marcia Lee Gleck (Sam), Catherine Merry-Azimi, and Carol Ann Merry. She is also survived by her son, Dr. Michael J. Merry (Pam), nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind Darlene Heistad, her brother's wife, and many relatives and dear friends. Anna Marie was predeceased by her parents, husband John, daughter Joanne (Merry) Roof, granddaughter Mary Catherine (Williams) Fuller, and brother Robert Heistad. Visitation will be at the Polo Family Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, July 2nd. The funeral services will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Polo, IL, Monday July 3rd at 10:00 a.m. with a graveside service to follow at the Fairmount Cemetery also in Polo. In lieu of flowers, donations to a teacher education scholarship fund established in her name will be gratefully accepted.
