Anne Meade Obituary

"> Anne M. Meade
Anne M. Meade, 54, of Lower Macungie contently left for heaven on August 7, 2013 on her own terms from home, surrounded by her loved ones, after fighting a valiant battle with cancer since age 13. She was the wife of Dr. Thomas Meade. Born in Atlanta, on October 27, 1958 to the late Jeanette and Joseph Salome. She graduated from Riverwood High School in Atlanta after transferring for her senior year and was elected to the homecoming court. She graduated from Penn State in 3 1/2 years with a BS in Psychology and attended the prestigious Montessori Institute in Atlanta. Anne taught at The Greene Towne Montessori School in Center City Philadelphia for several years before moving and raising her family in Allentown. Anne became a passionate doll collector, beloved at the trade shows and a recognized expert with an envious Antique Madame Alexander Collection. She was also a high-level respected slot player, whose humble and kind demeanor belied her enormous talent and success. The eloquent treatment and respite she received at the major gaming institutions brought incredible joy to her life. Anne was loved by everyone and will be remembered as a selfless person with enormous empathy and optimism. Her cancer diagnosis never defined her and although she resisted the usual public approaches to cancer support, she privately mentored dozens of cancer patients through word of mouth referrals. Her personal success with a practical and educated approach to individualized treatment with a strong belief in holistic treatment is what attracted many seeming hopeless patients. They were inspired by Annes longevity and quality of life, which far exceeded traditional expectations. She was a special gifted person who left a soft but indelible mark on everyone she touched and will be missed dearly. Survivors: In addition to her husband, children, Daniel Meade, Melissa Meade and Christopher Meade; sisters, Loretta Spindel and husband Bob of Vienna VA, Jean Dreyer and husband Frank of Atlanta GA, Teresa Doering and husband Tom of Atlanta GA; brothers, David Salome and wife Kristen of Atlanta, GA, Joseph Salome and wife Nancy of Atlanta, GA; many nieces and nephews; and surrogate mother, Theresa Zintak of Allentown, PA. Services: Funeral Mass 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1040 Flexer Ave., Allentown. Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Wescosville. Call 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, 16th and Hamilton Sts., Allentown and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday in the church. Online condolences may be made at www.jsburkholder.com. Contributions: In lieu of flowers or contributions, please consider doing something special for someone less fortunate in Annes honor.

As others have said, Anne was even more beautiful on the inside than on the outside.

During my freshman year at St. Joseph's High School in Atlanta, my Mom was suffered a broken hip in a purse snatching incident and was subsequently taken to St. Joseph's Infirmary (just across the street from the High School). Due to a heart condition, the doctors could not operate, and my mom ended up staying in traction for six months at the infirmary.

Somehow Anne found out about my mom and, unbeknownst to me, she gathered several of her girl friends and went over to visit Mom after school for about an hour…

Mom totally embarrassed me by telling all sorts of stories that teenage boys do NOT want teenage girls to hear. Anne and all the other girls thought it was totally amusing, and it certainly cheered up my Mom. And most importantly, neither Anne nor any of the other girls ever used that embarrassing information against me !!! :) :).

That visit by Anne and her friends provided so much joy to my mother. It is something that I will never forget.

Dear Dr. Meade, Dan, Melissa and Chris,

I had the privilege of getting to know Anne about 5 years ago. Steve (my son) and Chris were friends. Anne took the time to get to know me since our sons spent a lot of time together. We even went out to lunch once. Specifically, we went to a restaurant in Emmaus called Sweet Memories. Ann ordered vegetable soup; whereas, I ordered quiche and mushroom soup with rice. I made a comment about her eating so little. She said that as she got older, it was easier to put on weight. This seemed almost impossible to believe considering that she was probably always at her ideal weight. In fact, I even asked her if she exercised. She said that she did not exercise. That made me smile considering that she looked absolutely wonderful. Just before we paid the bill, Anne ordered two cookies. She said that she would eat them later. That also made me smile. I was glad to know that she ate more than just vegetable soup. However, from that encounter, I learned that Anne was very self-disciplined. I also learned that Anne was very diplomatic, articulate, and kind. In fact, she even made a comment that the servers (at Sweet Memories) worked really hard. It was a heart-felt comment, indicating to me that she genuinely cared about others. It was also very clear to me that she loved her children. She knew them well, and she made sure to know their friends. She even knew some things about my son that I did not know until she revealed them to me. She was truly a very special person. She will be missed and her kind acts and wise words will not be forgotten. I will always treasure that special memory at Sweet Memories with Anne.

Dr. Meade: Words are sometimea insufficient as in a situation such as this. It is Christ and His Love through time that will make it better. She now lives with Christ, because those that lived in Him on earth, live with Him now in death!

Tom, only met Anne once when she put together the party for Penn State at your home. Reading her obituary was inspiring! I can only hope there's an Anne for me if I'm ever in that situation. It seems to me you were both in the same fields. Healing people, but in different ways. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. They can be so proud of you both! Love Val Beichey
