Anthony Bonforte Obituary

Anthony Gamble Bonforte August 28, 1935-August 26, 2006. Anthony Bonforte, 70, died August 26 of a sudden heart attack. He was the son of Mary Louise and John Bonforte and he grew up in Colorado Springs. Anthony moved to Pueblo in 1961 to work in the family businesses, The Suburban Land Company and the Building Materials Center. Belmont was developed by The Suburban Land Company. Anthony built two homes in Belmont; the second located on 44 Briargate Terrace was inspired by Italian architecture. He married Nancy Stephan Nichols of Pueblo in 1959 where they lived and raised their five children. In 1979, he moved his family to San Diego, CA., where he was involved in a multitude of projects. Anthony moved to Portland, OR in 1987 where he continued to work both as a developer and an entrepreneur until his death. Anthony was a gentle soul, a man of many ideas and a hopeless optimist. He loved to see the wonders of the world and show others the magic in the everyday. His heart beamed with pride when he spoke of his children and his three granddaughters. He loved the magnificence of architecture everywhere but particularly in Europe. Some of his fondest memories were walking the streets of Italy. To Anthony, buildings represented beauty and life; his passion was to provide housing to those who needed it most and he was a strong supporter of Habitat for Humanity. He also enjoyed spending weekends working in the garden or exploring the unique landscapes of Oregon. He is survived by his longtime companion, Nancy Hicks; five children: Elizabeth, Sioux, Jon, Carrie and Jeff; three grandchildren: Annie, Carolyn and Elizabeth; and his sister, Martha Bonforte Schwab who all loved him very much.

Dear Martha, moments ago I read of Anthony's death. I now consider 70 very young and even though I have heard nothing from Anthony and almost nothing OF anthony in many, many years, I think of him often and with great affection. We had a real history, from 1946 to sometime after his first wedding which I remember. I was pleased to learn that he was involved with Habitat for Humanity. Our son, Angus Guberman, worked long and hard on a Habitat house while a sophomore at Rollins College in Florida. Anyway, I regret that Anthony and I did not keep in touch. I too am an Italophile and I guess we had a lot in common besides just growing up on the same street, being in the same cub scout den, etc.

Love to you, Dearie

I have lost track of the Bonforte family. Although former next door neighbor and have thought about you many times. Would love to hear from Martha Bonforte Schwab if she sees this.
