During the millions of moments throughout his long life, whether things were wonderful or challenging, Wayne Field would always reply to the question of "How are you doing?" with a quick "I'm too blessed to be distressed!" Born in New York and a decades-long resident of Colorado Springs, at 95+ years 'young', he lived a full life filled with love, adventures, business endeavors, a proud and illustrious military career and enough stories to fill volumes. He was known to claim that it was he who won the war! Wayne proudly served in the United States Army during World War II, and was seriously wounded in action during the Battle of the Bulge in 1945. By the grace of God and the kindness of a courageous German family who hid him from the enemy in their basement, he survived his injuries and was awarded the Purple Heart along with many other medals and honors acknowledging his bravery. He was the proudest veteran of all!

On June 23, 1956, he married his love, Patricia Ann, and together they raised their six children. Their household was filled with the many responsibilities of a large family. Pat and Wayne were married for 52 years until his dear wife passed away in March of 2009. Wayne looked forward to visits or phone calls from their kids throughout the years…the rewards for being a Dad.

Shortly after, while missing Patricia's company, Wayne accepted an invitation to a luncheon being held at Sunridge Retirement Community. That was the day he met Marie. Their friendship blossomed quickly, even though neither one imagined that they would ever find another person to spend their later days with! They were married on June 5, 2010 and enjoyed nearly seven years together, taking good care of each other, until Marie died on Easter Sunday of 2017.

In his grief after the losses of Patricia and Marie, Wayne turned his heart toward God and his faith deepened. His Father God truly became his source of joy, comfort and strength in the coming challenges in his life.

Wayne 'inherited' his second family when he and Marie wed. He became 'our dad' to his step-children, Jeanine and Bob Walla. Lots of happy days were spent in the company of the Walla family, where he was very much welcomed and loved.

One of his favorite ways to spend an afternoon was playing cards with Bob, Jeanine and his buddy, Dan. 'Hand and Foot', always played according to Wayne's rules, was the all-time favorite pick. Lot of laughs and many memories were made! His exclamations of "Oh, boy…oh, boy' could be heard often, whether he was winning or losing…always making us chuckle! Not to be overlooked was his musical side. Constantly heard humming and singing… we always knew where to find him!

The last days of his amazing life were difficult. Keeping his strong faith alive and his spirit as high as possible, with the help of many prayers, he maneuvered through his journey with grace and dignity. With family at his side during this time, Wayne found his path to Heaven. He left this world looking forward to reuniting with those he had loved and missed for so long. We all know in our hearts that it was the grandest reunion ever! Once again, Anthony Wayne Field is 'too blessed to be distressed'!

Wayne is survived by his children…Laura, Linda, Nancy, Tony, and Mike. Their daughter, Kathy, is deceased. He also has his grandchildren, Tammy, Jacob, Yosef, Rachael, Daniel, David, Michelle, Daniel, great-grandson, Benjamin and his dear sister, Margaret and her son, Scott.

In addition is his step-family…Jeanine and Bob, their sons, Mike and Chris and their wives, Erin and Sara; and his great-grandchildren, Avery and Emmitt.

The World will certainly miss this great man…rest in eternal peace, Wayne!

A Celebration of his Life Service will be held on: Wednesday, March 23 at 11:00am, St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 2650 Parish View, Colorado Springs, CO 80919

A luncheon will follow immediately after in the parish meeting hall and all are welcome to come and celebrate with Wayne's family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the PVA Mountain States Chapter where all monies are kept local to benefit the paralyzed veterans in our region…an organization that was near and dear to Wayne.
