Arthur (Art) Merrihew Obituary

Arthur (Art) William Merrihew, 82, of Falcon, CO passed away peacefully with his family at his side on October 9, 2011. Born in Lebanon, New Hampshire to Dexter and Vera Mae Merrihew, Art was one of 11 children. After high school, he joined the army and was stationed at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, Texas. It was during this time that he met his beloved wife of 60 years, Herlinda G. Garcia. Art and Herlinda settled in El Paso and raised five children. He was the Operations Manager, working at Lee Way Trucking for 22 years. He moved his family to Alpine, Texas in 1978 where he owned and operated several businesses. He was active in numerous civic organizations including Rotary club and he was the town's parade marshal for countless events. Art retired and moved to Falcon, CO in 1998 to be closer to his children and grandchildren. He was an avid gardener, amateur photographer, and loved to crack jokes. He never knew a stranger and always lent a helping hand volunteering for many organizations. His smile and laugh will be sorely missed. Art is survived by his wife Herlinda; children, Debbie Douglass - Conklin, Michael Merrihew (Barbara), Rhonda Merrihew, Teresa Sarine (Jeff), Deirdre Sarine (John). Siblings Harry Merrihew (twin), Julia Strong, John Merrihew, six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren. Mass will be held Friday, October 14 at Holy Apostles Catholic Church (Oro Blanco and North Carefree). Viewing 1:00 - 1:30, Rosary 1:30, Mass 2:00. In lieu of flowers a memorial gift can be made to Pikes Peak Hospice (825 E. Pikes Peak Ave, Suite 600, Colorado Springs, CO 80903 or Alzheimer's Association (2315 Bott Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80904).

Merrihew family:
I am so sorry for your loss. Kind words help heal your pain somewhat. But most of all, remember how many friends Art had and how much he was loved by so many. That alone speaks louder than any words could say! I will always remember his smile and corny jokes. He had a way of making us all smile!
