"Uncle Art" was my uncle, my father's brother. My brothers and I would always like to stop by the "shop" to see Uncle Art and go across the street to have a coke. The printing shop always smelled the same: of ink. The noise was the same: loud, yet methodical. The printing machines could be quite lulling because of the back and forth of the roller - lulling, except for the noise. Unless one has seen the old printing machines, it may be difficult to vision what I remember in my mind.

I can remember watching how Uncle Art would print the tickets to the Air Force Academy games, or some event happening in Colorado Springs. No computerized tickets back then; they were all 'handset." We would always park in the back of the shop, and make our way through to the front, collecting cut off strips of paper from the tickets as we went past the scrap bins. At the front of the shop, we could usually find Aunt Jean, working on the books, I can see her now, sitting ever so calmly, and politely.

I will always remember family house on Washatch, a neat old house... and playing with my cousins, Janice - always gave me great clothes - and Jed and Scott. I remember when my bridal shower was held in the living room of that house in December 1973; and I remember my cousin Janice's room with its big closet (full of clothes) and a sun porch area, with windows and french doors.

I remember when Uncle Art vocalized an observation about a coconut Easter bunny cake my mother made one year - and because Uncle Art was so reserved - the comment is even more priceless. (Sorry, I can't divluge the comment...)

Most of all, I am so grateful that I was able to see Uncle Art just a month ago - when we had a party for my dad's 75th birthday - Uncle Art is someone who will always be printing up something - the ink is in his veins, and I am sure that he and Aunt Jean are in heaven together, smiling down on all of us - his children, grandchildren, great-grandchilren, nieces, nephews, cousins,sisters-in-law, and his brothers: Bob and Cliff(my dad.)

But I believe the greatest of happiness for both Uncle Art and Aunt Jean is to be together for eternity, and watch over their family.

Scott and family,

Cannot imagine how you are all feeling. Art was an incredible man and we all loved him dearly. It helps to know that he will be with his love once again to live with her in eternity. What a wonderful eternity it will be with both of them together.

My heart goes out to all, especially you, Scott; hug yourself for me. Thinking of you!
