Arthur Spencer Chumley

Arthur Spencer Chumley, 75, passed away on Feb. 26, 2023 following a hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born on August 5, 1947 in Lake Charles, LA and grew up in Wichita Falls, TX.
Spencer was an optician by trade who called Denver and Colorado Springs home for almost 50 years. His friends and family will remember him by his defining sarcastic wit, dark sense of humor, Cajun roots, his generosity to those around him, and his uncanny ability to carry on any story for hours.
Spencer had many hobbies and even more projects around the house. He was a handyman, Volkswagen enthusiast, audiophile, camper, backpacker, and skier. Spencer was never known to keep driving past a good yard sale or free item found on the side of the road.
He leaves behind three children: Ethan (and wife Catherine), Penny (and husband Martin), and Eberle (and husband Wil); and his youngest sister, Sharon George. Spencer was immensely proud of his kids and told anyone that would listen of their accomplishments. He was preceded in death by his parents Shirley Chumley (née Robertson) and Arthur Chumley, sister Shirley Ann Smith, and niece Jan Gwatney - and also by his beloved pets that were often treated as well as his human children: Mijo, Blackie, Bob Barker, Toy Boat, Boris, and Natasha.

My husband, Keith, and I shared many many trips, outings, dinners, etc. with Spencer and Laurie. He was so clever, witty and well-informed that it is difficult to remember that he had little education after high school.
I always, thought of him as a gentleman, a delightful companion, and a good and loyal friend to me and Keith. They don't make 'em like that any more.

My husband, Keith, and I shared many dinners, road trips, movies, and plays with Spencer and Laurie. Spencer had a unique sense of humor and was easily surprised and pleased when we played some silly trick on him. He was immensely proud of his son Ethan and loved time with him.
