Arthur "Art" Rosmark Nielsen was called home to be with the Lord on October 24, 2023. Art was born September 13, 1943 to Jorgen and Ingeborg Nielsen in Svendborg, Denmark but immigrated to Toronto, Canada as a teenager. Art attended the Royal Military College Canada, majoring in Electrical Engineering. Art was commissioned as a Sub Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Navy, attending flight school and flying off the Aircraft Carrier, Bonaventure. In 1972, he was assigned to an exchange position with the US Navy in Norfolk, VA, where he met the love of his life, Carol Holley. They were married in Portage La Prairie, MB in 1974.
During his 34 years of military service, Art commanded several squadrons: PFS, VU 33, and 415. Art and Carol came to Colorado Springs in 1994 to serve at NORAD and loved it so much they never left, retiring in 1996.
Art is survived by his wife of 49½ years, sons Michael (Nicole) and David (Keeley), and his brother Steffen. Art was blessed with four grandchildren Jackson, Evelyn, Maeve and Kelsey.
A memorial service will be held on 4 Jan 24, at 10:30 am, at Forestgate Presbyterian Church, 970 Northgate Blvd, a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Art's name to Springs Rescue Mission of Colorado Springs.
