Arvids Zigurs Obituary

Arvids Zigurs passed away April 4, 2010 peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was born May 5, 1926 in Latvia. He immigrated to the United States, first residing in Senatobia, Mississippi and moving to Colorado Springs in 1950. When arriving in Colorado he went to work as Supervisor for Banning Lewis Ranches. In a very short time his skills as a craftsman and builder were recognized and he moved on to Vrooman Construction where he finished his career as Building Supervisor. He was active in the Latvian organization in both Colorado Springs and Denver. Being an avid gardener his yard and flower beds were always pristine. Arvids was preceded in death by his parents, Aleksandris and Marianna, sister Gaida and brother Uldis. His is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Vesma of Colorado Springs, his daughter Brigita (Martinson) and her husband Otto of Virginia Beach, Virginia, his granddaughter Kassi (Nease) and her husband Brett of Colorado Springs, his grandson Matthew (Skinner) and his wife Jennifer of Denver, and his three great grandsons, Michael, Jacob and Garrett (Harman) of Colorado Springs. Memorials in Arvids name may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of one's choice. Memorial service will take place Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 5:00pm at the Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel. Reception will follow at the Olympian Plaza Reception and Event Center, 975 S. Union Blvd. Inurnment to take place at a later date.
