Atlee Lemasters Obituary

Feb 16, 1922-Feb 25, 2006 Lee Lemasters, age 84, passed away peacefully at Penrose Hospital on February 25th, 2006. He was born February 16, 1922 in Wetzel County, WV. Lee served in World War II and the Korean War as a still photographer. In World War II he was a survivor of the landing at Anzio Beach. While stationed in Japan, he met Elaine Lukitsch of Milwaukee, WI. Lee and Elaine were married in Denver, CO in 1952. Lee worked at the Climax molybdenum mine and Rocky Mountain Arsenal. In 1958 he started his career as a photographer at the Air Force Academy, moving to Colorado Springs in 1960. He retired in 1989. Lee was artistically talented and had a very good eye for photographing people and places. Elaine passed away in 1989 and Lee remarried in 1991 to Madge Love. Lee was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hiking and winter sports. He was active in the local Prospector's Club. He enjoyed the mountains and spent as much time as possible at his cabin in Granite, CO. Lee had a love for life and for people, and never passed up an opportunity to make a new friend. Lee is survived by his second wife, Madge, two sons, Jon Lemasters of Santa Fe, NM and Todd Lemasters of Florissant, his daughter, Toni Davis of Colorado Springs, his grandson, Ryan Davis, his granddaughter, Jacki Davis, and his great grandson, Christopher France. His last living sister, Mary, and one older brother, Brady, both of Moundsville, WV, also survive him. A memorial service will be held March 18, 2006 at Swan-Law Funeral Home located at 501 N. Cascade Ave., at 1:00 p.m. There will be a celebration of life immediately following at the Antlers Hotel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to "Reflections" a remembrance program through Wasson High School and Pikes Peak Hospice, which provides families of hospice patients with videos of their loved ones. Donations may be sent to Pikes Peak Hospice, 825 E. Pikes Peak Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO, 80903. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the wonderful staff at Penrose Hospital, 11th Floor. Also a special thanks to Lee's wonderful friends that he was so blessed to have known. Their compassion for Lee will always be remembered.
