Atsuko Bevans Obituary

Atsuko Bevans, age 75, passed away on June 30, 2010 after a brave struggle with pulmonary fibrosis and lung cancer. We rest assured that her Lord has welcomed her home. Atsuko was born on August 24, 1934 to Yukio and Tame (Ozumi) Matsuoka in Tokyo, Japan. She has two sisters: Kuniko and Eiko. Atsuko graduated from Aoyama Gakuin University in Tokyo in 1957 and worked for the JC Penney Company until her retirement. Atsuko and James O. Bevans were married on March 3, 1990 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She attended church at Kendrick Bible Church and Rush United Methodist Church. She was also a long time member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary where she and Jim spent many hours involved in fraternal projects and were able to indulge their love of dancing and spend time with friends. Atsuko will be remembered for her love of travel, gardening, walking and for her willingness to always lend a helping hand to any friend in need. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. Atsuko is survived by her loving husband of Rush, Colorado; her sisters: Kuniko and Eiko; her step-children: Dwight J. (wife Carolyn) Bevans of Rush, Colorado; David L. Bevans of Kansas; and Laura Hennings of Colorado Springs, Colorado; her grandchildren: Jessica K. (husband, Jeff) Zaiger of Colorado Springs; Lucas Hennings of Colorado Springs; Trevor Bevans of Wichita, Kansas; and Torrey (wife, Lindsey) Bevans of Topeka, Kansas; her great-grandchildren: Corinne Bevans, Ayla Bevans, Sophie Bevans, Lawrence Hennings, Chase Zaiger and Addison Zaiger; and many nieces, nephews, good friends and family, both near and far. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, July 19, 2010 at the Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel. A reception will follow at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 1050 S 21st St, Colorado Springs, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Pikes Peak Hospice, Rush United Methodist Church, or Kendrick Bible Church.

We became friends with Atsuko in San Juan Texas while she was there for treatment. She a very wonderful person and was an inspiration to be around. We missed seeing her the past 2 years and was sorry to hear of her illness and passing. Joyce and Jack Walls

i have known autsko my whole life. she was a wonderful person with an amazing personality. she will be greatly missed by those who knew her. always remember that she is a prayer away

Atsuko was my neighbor for many years. After she moved we lost touch but I will always remember this lovely lady very fondly.
