Audrey Claire Gannon

November 19, 2024

Audrey Claire Gannon, age 97 of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away peacefully at home on November 19, 2024. Audrey was the oldest of two daughters born to Lucia and Peter Bizzarri. Audrey and her sister, Mona were raised in the Bronx and later moved to Carmel, New York. Audrey attended Carmel High School where she met her future husband, James (Jim) Gannon. They married in 1948. Audrey and Jim had five children. In 1971 they relocated to Colorado Springs where they found the perfect home to live and raise their family. Audrey loved the magnificent view of Pikes Peak from her front door. Audrey embraced the dry climate and the frontier spirit of the Mountain West. Audrey was a dedicated and beloved educator, beginning her career in special education and ending her career teaching third grade. Audrey loved teaching. In her own words she stated: "My goal and philosophy are to nurture student's strengths and to bring out the best in each one of them and to encourage them to strive for excellence and love and enjoy school." Upon retiring from teaching, Audrey enjoyed playing bridge with friends, creating delicious meals for her family, and volunteering at her local parish. Audrey treasured annual family gatherings in the Colorado mountains. Spending time with her children and grandchildren was her greatest joy. Her large kitchen table was the favorite gathering spot for family meals, conversation with friends and playing Bridge. Audrey will be missed for her nurturing and generous spirit, her wonderful sense of humor, as well as her total devotion to her family, friends, and neighbors.
Audrey is preceded in death by her husband Jim and son Matthew. Audrey is survived by children, Richard (Denise Stegman), Joyce (Tim Myers), Mark (Shelly) and David (Leslie), grandchildren, Ryan (Laura), Nicholas Myers (Cindy), Kelsey (Stefan) and Paige (Gunnar) and great grandchild, Rae. She is also survived by her sister Mona Meeker and many cousins, nieces, and nephews, whom she held dear.
