Columbus, NC- Barbara McSwain Batchler, 75, loving mother and devoted wife to the late Ken Batchler, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2018.
Born March 15, 1942 in Shelby, NC, she and Ken lived in Gastonia, NC for 34 years before retiring to Polk County, NC. Barabara was an active member of First Baptist Church of Tryon, where she served on a number of committees. Barbara served on the board of Polk County Transportation, Western Carolina Community Action, and as chairperson for the Council on Aging Board. She also volunteered for a variety of community services, as well as sang in the community chorus which provided scholarships for area youth. She was very proud to have been instrumental in the creation of the Foothills Housing Partnership, Inc., which will provide home improvement services for those less fortunate in the community.
Surviving are three daughters, Kelly Batchler Hardee (Jeff), Angel Batchler Brannon, and Amy Rebecca Batchler, all of the Gastonia, NC area; 2 grandchildren, F. David Brannon, III of Raleigh, NC, and Melissa Hardee of Dallas, NC. Also surviving is a brother, Leslie Smith of Lenoir City, TN.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 12, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Tryon with Dr. Jeff Harris officiating.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. – 12:45 p.m. prior to the service.

My sincere condolences to Barbara's family. I had the pleasure of getting to know her, in Community Chorus. We sang side by side for several years. After our Christmas performance she said, "See ya in the Spring!"
