Barbara Jean
(Finger) Brown

March 19, 2023

Barbara Jean Finger Brown was born on September 13, 1936, in Hickory, NC. She was the middle child of the late Bergin Alexander Finger and Christine Hoover Finger. She went to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 19, 2023, in the comfort of her home with the support and oversight from Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care.

Barbara (often referred to as Barb, Bob, or Barbara Jean) grew up in Hickory, NC and graduated from Ridgeview High School. Along with her family, she was actively involved at Clinton Tabernacle AME Zion Church. She continued to serve Jesus her Lord and Savior Whom she loved throughout her life. She married John Clifton Brown, the love of her life on June 15, 1958. From this union two children were born, Reginald and Teressa. Meanwhile they traveled the world in the Air Force and developed lasting friendships in other countries. After twenty years of military service, they decided to retire to Colorado Springs, CO.

In 1981 Barbara started to work in Nutrition Food Services in Harrison School District #2. She made sure all of the children were able to eat. No child was hungry on her watch. She retired early as a Food Service manager to care for her husband and became more active in the community.

Barbara served her community, being the Block Captain for our Neighborhood Watch since the 1980s. She was a strong advocate for getting the neighborhood park, Giberson Park, developed.

Barbara loved to bowl; she loved participating in numerous bowling leagues. She traveled throughout the United States to attend bowling tournaments. Additionally Barbara enjoyed attending card and game parties with friends and family. Barbara loved teaching others how to play new games. The elephant was her lucky charm. Elephants are present throughout her home.

Barbara's husband, parents, and siblings Martha Dyson, Helen Jones, William Finger, and Sandra Summerous preceded her in death. Those who will continue to celebrate her memory are son, Reginald Brown; daughter Teressa Hill; granddaughter Arianna Hill; sisters-in-law Joan (Pat) Finger of Greensboro, NC, Barbara Gordon of Marietta, GA, and Eleanor Byrd of Hickory, NC; brothers-in-law John Summerous of Greensboro, NC and Eric C. Brown (Benita) of Goldsboro, NC; and a host of other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and other relatives and friends.
