Barbara Crongeyer Obituary

Our beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother died on 18 May 2009. After years of pain, her heart could take no more surgery. This lovely and wonderful woman was born near Carbondale, IL. on 3 July 1932 to Ralph and Mildred Snyder. Her husband, George, sons Geroge II, and Ralph; Daughters Elizabeth and Jennifer; daughters-in-law Annie and Janice; granddaughters Jennifer, Molly and Kate and Great grandson, Guy Griffith, survive her. Barbara's oldest son, Sam McFadin, predeceased her, as did her parents and sister. Barbara's lifelong love was being a Mom. There was never a child she did not love. She was a professional volunteer!! She volunteered at various U.S. Air Force Bases in their Special Service units while moving her family from base to base whenever her husband was transferred. Barbara volunteered in a local school system with a love for aiding special education children until her rheumatoid arthritis forced her to change jobs. She volunteered at a local hospital pediatric department until arthritis so crippled her that she had to change jobs again. Her last efforts were crocheting Afghans for newborns for the Peterson AFB Chapel's Doll Workshop. By now, she could only use the thumb and forefinger on each hand. Barbara loved to cook, dance, paint and draw and was a good sailor and sailboat crewmember that visited many islands in the Caribbean and enjoyed visiting foreign countries. Barbara taught oil and water color painting. She also sold many of her paintings. Her greatest gift to her family is the family. A family member's memorial will be planned. Interment will be in Ft. Logan National Cemetery this summer. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation.

I was incredibly saddened & shocked by the news of Barbara's death. In the short time I had the honor of knowing her, Barbara was an inspiration to me. No matter how much pain, discomfort, & discouragement she was fighting...she still came into my salon with a positive attitude & outlook. I absolutely looked forward to her & Jenny coming in because I knew there would be laughter. Stories she told of her childhood & raising her children were a highlight for me. It was always amazing to see the love & tremendous teamwork between she & Jenny. Barbara...you will be deeply missed, but fondly remembered. I pray that you, her family will be reminded often of the countless lives she touched with her goodness.

My memories of Mrs. Congeyer go back to when I was young. The Crongeyer's house was the place to be for kids on the block. I remember the garage doors were alway open because someone was always riding something out of them, bikes, skateboards, big wheels, pogo sticks, hippity hops, roller skates. The driveway and garage were like a playground. In the summer I would go over there looking for my sister as she practically lived there, (we always knew where she was, "she's at the Crongeyers")and there would be a pool in the backyard and all the kids were in it, and their Black Lab King would be running around the backyard. I remember Mrs. Crongeyer was always sewing or cooking, she never seemed to mind all these kids at her house. I remember roller skating in their basement, and Liz and Jenny and Desi would play dress up down there. She made a wonderful home for her family and took great care of everyone. She made a lot of great memories for a lot of people and she will be greatly missed but always remembered.

Janice Crongeyer-Basye This week, we mourn the tragic loss of one of the most beautiful and generous women I have ever known...my second mother, Barbara Crongeyer. She was a caring, loving person, who accepted people for what they were. Anyone could depend on a word of encouragement or comfort from her in a time of need. She bravely fought Rheumatoid Arthritis, for over 20 years. She is free of pain now. You will be greatly missed Barbara!

Barbara was my neighbor at the Coachman Townhomes for many years. She was a wonderful person to know, creative, talented and a wonderful cook. She brought the most besutiful cakes to the pot luck dinners. She will be missed. I know her health issues became paramount. I can identify with that. Blessings to the family.
