Barbara Goodbar was born August 9, 1930 to Orrie E. Moore and
Eleanor Magner Moore in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She attended
Lowell School, South Junior and Colorado Springs High School. She
graduated from Loretto Heights College with a Bachelor of Science
degree in nursing (the first class of nursing students from Loretto
Heights and Seton School of Nursing).
Mrs. Goodbar married C. Lee Goodbar Jr, March 10, 1951. In 1958, Barbara retired from nursing to raise their three children.
During that time she was a Girl Scout Leader, Boy Scout Leader, a
member of East United Methodist Church, President of the
Administrative Board of East United Methodist Church, and President
of the Women's Society. After she finished those duties, Mrs. Goodbar
volunteered at the El Paso County health Department in the Well Baby
Clinic for twelve years. She was appointed to the Child Health Council
for the state of Colorado and was president of that organization for two
years. The Council was instrumental in passing legislation for child seat
restraints and worked on making the public aware of child abuse.
Mrs. Goodbar was a member of the same bridge club since 1954 and
was a founding member of the Sunshine Girls (women who went to
school together and many since kindergarten). She had many good
friends that she loved.
She is survived by her husband and three children. Cheryl (Erhard) Fitzsimmons, Charles L. (Lisa) Goodbar III, Thomas (Kelly) Goodbar, five
grandchildren, Kathryn (Bilal) Karaze, Kelsey (Bob) Clarke, Levi Goodbar,
Rachel (Scott Fluegge) Goodbar, Hannah (Harrison Chodash) Goodbar,
and 4 great grandchildren, Bruce, Malik, William, and Asher.
Mrs. Goodbar will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
