BARBARA LYNN (CAREY) KOLAR
May 7, 1938
February 21, 2021
Barbara Kolar, beloved sister, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on February 21, 2021 in Monument, Colorado. She was born in San Diego, California, on May 7, 1938; the first of three children born to the late William and Wilma Carey of La Mesa, California.
Barbara graduated from Grossmont High School in La Mesa, California and went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Art at UCLA. After college, Barbara traveled overseas, spending a year at a Kibbutz in Israel, where her sister, Marilyn joined her, and another couple of years traveling through Europe together. During this time, she supported herself by finding various jobs teaching English to children in public and private capacities.
Family and friends were extremely important in Barbara's life. She especially enjoyed family vacations at Hume Lake Christian Camps in the California Sierras. She frequently visited Israel, which she often referred to as her "second home." Barbara's broad network of friends reached the far corners of the world, which she always loved to visit with during her travels. Throughout her life Barbara was devoted to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, supporting her church as well as missionary societies operating in the U.S. and abroad. In this connection she traveled extensively in Europe, the Middle East, India, and Asia; visiting missionaries and personally taking part with them in their endeavors.
Barbara was preceded in passing by her oldest son, Lance Kolar and her oldest daughter, Kimberly Kolar. She leaves behind her younger son, Troy Kolar and his wife Alexis Kolar of Toronto, Canada, and her younger daughter, Kouy Kolar-Novice, her husband Ken Novice, and their daughter Lyra of Santa Monica, California. She is further survived by her sister, Marilyn Rivers and her husband Dan Rivers of Colorado Springs, Colorado and by her sister, Nancee Delhousay and her husband Dennis Delhousay of Monument, Colorado, as well her nephews, Michael and Shaun and nieces, Tamarah, Holly, Summer, Vanessa, Wendy, and Heather.
In consideration of current Covid restrictions, a memorial service will be held later in 2021 in Colorado Springs, supported by Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs. Please visit www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/colorado-springs-co/barbara-kolar-10067969 to view photos of Barbara's life and to share a written message for the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Joni and Friends, P.O. Box 3333, Agoura Hills, CA 913?76-3333, a ministry that Barbara supported for decades.
