Barbara Miller Obituary

Barbara Anne Miller of Colorado Springs, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away at the Penrose St. Francis hospital on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 after a long battle with Pulmonary Hypertension. Barbara was born in Tifton, GA on Feb 21, 1938 to William C. Langston and Francis M. Stone. Her early youth was spent in Calhoun, GA. The family then moved to Panama City, FL where she first met her future husband in the 6th grade. Barbara was gifted with a beautiful soprano voice which she enjoyed sharing in school operettas/musicals, weddings and funerals and summer stock theater. Her special talent helped her to win the Miss Panama City 1956 beauty pageant. She graduated from Bay High School in Panama City in 1956. Barbara married her 6th grade beau, Airman Ronald "Ronnie" Miller in Panama City on Oct 27, 1956 and began a wonderful adventure as a military wife, mother of three, elementary school secretary and, most of all, loving and doting "Gramma" to six wonderful grandchildren. Like all military families, Barbara and Ronnie had many homes and Barbara always made them comfortable, warm and welcoming. They chose Colorado Springs to be their home. Barbara was fortunate to find her ideal job as an elementary school secretary in 1979 in District 20 from which she retired after almost 19 years. Barbara is survived by her husband, CMSgt (ret) Ronald P. Miller; son Stephen L. Miller (Michelle) of Fort Collins; son David A. Miller (Kelly), and daughter Laura A. Bervig (David) of Colorado Springs; grandchildren Marin and Morgan Miller of Fort Collins; Michael and Andrea Miller; and Austin and Raegan Bervig of Colorado Springs.; step-grandchildren Dustin Oldenburg and Brandi Risley (Jesse, Jalyn and Lily) of Colorado Springs. Her father, William C. Langston, and mother, Francis Stone Rowe, preceded her in death. A viewing will be held at Mountain View Mortuary on Friday, Nov 12, 2010 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be on Monday, Nov 15, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the USAF Academy Community Center Chapel with burial following at the USAF Academy Cemetery. Mountain View Mortuary is handling arrangements.

Dear Family,

When I received the news about Barbara yesterday, what a flood of memories, and all so pleasant of Barbara and Ron. As a teenager traveling to P.C. to a basketball game and meeting her for the first time, seeing the two get married, and the happy times that followed. Our lives seperated, as we went our seperate ways, but reconnecting at family reunions was special for me to catch up on news of your family. We will miss her and her genuine love that she gave to us all.

My love and prayers go out to Barbara's family and friends. As her niece, it was wonderful to be related to such a lovely lady. Though, I did not see her as often as I would have liked she was always kind, considerate, and compassionate. She gave me her full attention each time we were together. I always left our visits feeling loved and uplifted. Her encouraging spirit was a true gift. I loved her and I regret that I don't have more memories to cherish. She made her life a gift to others.

God speed dear Barb. As written in the obituary, I know she would have made all homes comfortable, warm and welcoming....the way she made me feel as a neighbor. We will certainly miss Barb on Ptarmigan Lane.
Heartfelt sympathy, and love to Ron and family.
