Barbara Mulligan, 86, the beloved matriarch of the Mulligan clan, passed away on July 3rd, 2025, with family by her side. Born on July 26th, 1938, in Boston, MA. Barbara's greatest joy was her large family. She also had the great fortune of forming long-lasting friendships in her life, which she always treasured.
She graduated from Boston State University College of Education with a Bachelor of Science in 1964 and a Master of Education in 1970. Barbara displayed her love of the arts in all aspects of her life.
As a mother of six and grandmother of ten, she created a home where holiday celebrations were special. Family and friends alike eagerly anticipated Thanksgiving dinner. Getting ready for Christmas was full of decorating and cookie baking. Valentine's Day included trees covered in hearts, St. Patrick's always had corned beef and an Irish jig, and Easter was filled with a morning at church and Easter egg hunt. Even summer and the 4th of July included special treats and sparklers. She truly made these days into significant events with much fun and laughter.
From volunteering at her children's schools to being a swim team mom, throughout her career, her creativity and artistic talent shone. On staff with the Girl Scout Council of Colorado Springs, her innovative and creative programs had a broad impact, earning her recognition with Honor and Excellence awards. These innovative and impactful programs instilled courage, confidence, and character at all levels of scouting in the area. After her time at Girl Scouts, Barbara worked as a volunteer coordinator, bringing her special touch to other programs.
Barbara leaves behind her children—Marion, Susan, Dan, Greg, and Karen—and their families. She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, her daughter Julie Cox (Schuman), and grandson Ryan Pappas.
A Funeral Mass and memorial is planned at Holy Apostles Catholic Church in Colorado Springs, CO on Friday, July 18, 11 am with a reception to follow.
