Barbara Nuckels Obituary

Bobbe Nuckels, 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 3, 2016 in Santa Barbara, CA after a courageous battle with Alzheimer 's disease. Born in Colorado Springs, CO to Robert A and Ruth Bess Pruyne, she was a loving spouse, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all who knew her and loved her in return. Bobbe was the life of every party, had a generous spirit and an incredible sense of humor.

She attended Cheyenne Mountain School from kindergarten to High School, was an accomplished ice skater and later became an acclaimed square dancer, traveling around the country dancing for large audiences. After graduation, she attended Blair's Business College, joining the Alpha lota Sorority, graduating in May of 1950. Shortly after, she met the love of her life, Evers Dawn Nuckels and she and Dawn were married in 1952 and moved to California. They eventually settled in San Mateo and Hillsborough where they raised five wonderful children. Her children kept her busy with sports, school and extra-curricular activities and she took an active role in their lives. She also found time to volunteer as an active member of the Peninsula Auxiliary Lighthouse for the Blind and the California Federation of Republican Women (Mid-Peninsula Chapter) where she served in many leadership positions. After her kids were grown, she happily doted on her cherished grandchildren.

Bobbe was preceded in death by her husband, Evers Dawn Nuckels, daughter Dawn Marie Nuckels, parents, Robert and Ruth Pruyne, and sisters Shirley Ann Muir and Ruth Alice Bakr. She is survived by her children Robert Nuckels (Katie) of Mill Valley, Terry Nuckels (Andie) of Auburn, Kevin Nuckels (Danit) of Montecito and Dan Nuckels of Santa Rosa; grandchildren Vince Nuckels (Connie), Dawn-Marie Tabery (Jim), Jessica Nuckels, Marissa Nuckels (Roee), Meredith Nuckels and Max Nuckels. Her great-grandchildren include Lilly, Vinny and Eva Nuckels and Olivia Tabery. She is also survived by her many in-laws, nieces and nephews.

A Memorial celebrating her life will be held sometime after the Holiday Season.

The family wishes to thank with deep appreciation The Heritage House of Santa Barbara and John Perata for their loving care. Remembrances of Bobbe can be made to Project Ninety (www.projectninety.org) or the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org).
