BARBARA (BUTTS) OLIVER
July 16, 1946 February 16, 2024
Barbara Oliver (nee Butts) left this planet on Feb 16, 2024 at age 77. Born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin on July 16, 1946 to Marion and Murray Butts, she was one of four sisters. A revered artist, she was well known for her award-winning original quiltwork, handcrafted greeting cards, natural dreamcatchers, psychedelic line art, portraiture, and endless assorted creative projects. She was at the heart of the "hippie" counterculture movement during the late 1960s, including adventures such as witnessing Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock and hanging out with author James Leo Herlihy, before returning to the Midwest where she raised four children. Upon moving to Colorado, Barbara Oliver became actively engaged in
the community and was often seen at the local establishments visiting with her many friends (and making new ones). A passionate member of the Quilters Above the Clouds guild, she
was awarded an honorary lifetime membership. Barbara was preceded in death by her sister Mary and husband Stephen. She is survived by her sisters Betsy, Judy, and Martha as well as her four children and two grandchildren. Donations in her name can be given to
the Alzheimer's Foundation in memory of her late husband Stephen and/or to KRCC 91.5
FM.
