Rickett
Barbara Frey Rickett
1941 - 2017
Barbara Frey Rickett went to be with her Lord on 10-5-17. She was born in Pender, NE on 7-17-41 to Woodrow (deceased) and Vivian Frey (deceased)
She is survived by her very best friend and beloved husband of 58 years, Bob Rickett. She is also survived by her much loved children, daughter, Gina (Rob) Daugherty and grandsons, Michael and Matthew of Colorado Springs; Son, Corwin Rickett of N. Carolina and grandchildren, Tabitha Rickett, Alex and Larissa,Swope, Jonathon Norwood; and
Son, Marty (Rhonda) Rickett of Colorado Springs and grandsons, Adam and Dustin. Also her sister, Jane Wood of Colorado Springs and brother, Woody (Shirley) Frey of Pender, Nebraska and 5 nieces and nephews, and seven grand-nieces and nephews She had 3 Step sisters, Leone Coryell, Lynn Roberts, Amy Wilson and their families; Aunt and Uncle Bill and Gladys Kelly, and Aunt Helen Frey - all in their 90's to 100's.
Barbara was blessed to come from a very large family with 20 aunts and uncles and 68 first cousins (not counting their wonderful spouses.) Her love for every member of her family, close and extended, meant everything to her. Many of her friends and family call her, "The hostess with the mostess" as she loved to gather family, friends, neighbors, and school mates together often for meals and fellowship. She planned numerous reunions yearly. Her father's family celebrated their 130th consecutive family reunion in 2014. They also received two Guinness Book of World Records as 11 of the 14 brothers and sisters were married 50 years and 6 were married 60 years.
She went to school in Thurston NE and rarely lost a bet when it came to attending the smallest school; 21 in 4 grades of high school, 7 in her class, and three of these were Barbara and her two first cousins.
Over the years she belonged to and led many, many organizations. In 1977 she and Bob and family moved to Colorado Springs and became a partner and ran the Skate City on Academy Blvd. for 5 years. She also worked in Public Relations, Advertising and Civil Service. She enjoyed years of Network Marketing with companies with healthy products.
From the beginning of her life, Barbara was always deeply involved in her church, which is currently St. Paul's United Methodist. She was very active, held various positions and made many lasting friendships there.
Her family was her greatest gift and treasure. She also enjoyed collecting angels, decorating - especially for Christmas and for special occasions for her church, traveling, reading, the beauty of flowers and nature; especially the Colorado Mountains. She truly loved taking visitors around Colorado Springs and into the mountains. She knew how to show visitors an amazing piece of Colorado in one long day. She never knew a stranger, and was a "cockeyed optimist!" Her life was shining with hope, decorated with smiles and laughter and warmed with love.
Services will be at ll:00 a.m. on Saturday 10-14 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 2111 Carlton Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80909. Lunch will be served following the service. The family will receive guests in the Chapel of the Church on Friday 10-13 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Burial will be private. Donations can be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Please dress brightly and happy!

Barbara´s zest for living, her wonderful smile that lit up a room, her kindness and openness, her ability to laugh at herself, her amazing hospitality and ability to put anyone and everyone at ease in her presence, and how lovely she made our church when she decorated it on special occasions for many years are several of the many things which I admired about her.She is deeply missed. She was one of a kind and we were all so blessed in knowing her.
Sent with love to her family,

Dear Bob, Gina and Cory,
I was so sorry I was out of town and could not be at the service for Barbara. I know it was a beautiful service and a wonderful tribute to such a special lady!! I have so many memories of Barbara - one that sticks out the most is all the containers of Christmas cookies that she would bake... dozens upon dozens!!! Her potato soup served with huge Ruben sandwiches was another favorite at the Rickett house!! Your mom was the world's best hostess and knew how to entertain her guests and make everyone feel special!! She LOVED people!! I know you all will miss her so much and the void in your family will be great! Barbara was a very special lady and I am truly blessed to have been the neighbor girl up the street that was touched by her love & kindness! I am so sorry for your loss and am sending hugs to each of you!!
With much love and sympathy,
Joi Phillips

Hi Bob. A person that departs from this earth never truly leaves, for they are still alive in our hearts and minds, through us, they live on. When I think of Barb I think what is lovely never dies, put passes into another loveliness. Please accept my condolences, she will not be forgotten.

Words cannot express how grateful and privileged I feel to have known Mrs Rickett or (Mom) as she asked me to call her in the first 10 minutes of meeting. Mom and the whole family welcomed me into their home for an entire year and shared their life, over 31 years ago, with me, the Aussie Exchange Student.

It was especially important for me to come back to visit this year, I didn't know why, it really didn't fit in to my work, budget or family plans at all, I just knew that I had to come to Colorado Springs to visit the family. What a blessing, someone was telling me that it was the right time. We spent 3 days together, it was amazing catching up on the past 30 years.

I will forever be grateful that she was a part of my life. From across the globe, not a day has gone by in 31 years that I do not reflect what a wonderful time I had, it was truly life changing a gift.

From Rocky Mountain trips to a white Christmas in Nebraska, church, family and friends, it was the best anyone could ask for.

I am very sad I could be there to support Dad, Gina, Corwin and all the family, I will be thinking of you all more than ever, my sincere condolences, she will be sadly missed.

Love

Simone Tanner (Phillpotts)
