Barbara Schneiter Obituary

Schneiter
Barbara Ann
Schneiter
March 16, 1948
September 19, 2022

Barbara Ann Schneiter, educator, loving mother, grandmother, and wife passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning of September 19, 2022 in Colorado Springs after a long battle with dementia / Alzheimer's disease.
Barbara was born on March 16, 1948 in Yonkers, New York to Maurice and Marie Walsh. She attended Springfield College (where basketball was invented!) and earned a Bachelor of Science. She worked as a recreation therapist before changing careers to become an elementary school teacher. In 1987, she returned to school for a Master of Education from Colorado College. During her 21-year career as an educator, she taught fifth grade at Broadmoor Elementary and Gold Camp Elementary in Colorado Springs. Barbara absolutely loved to teach math and science and was passionate about making learning fun. Her influence on her students will continue to be felt for many years to come.
Barbara loved to explore the outdoors with her family by hiking, camping, and skiing. She also enjoyed geocaching, baking cakes, hosting family gatherings, celebrating her Irish history, and singing along with her favorite Motown hits. As a devout Catholic, she attended St. Francis of Assisi and Sacred Heart Catholic churches in Colorado Springs for many years.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, James; son Stephen and wife Carly of Golden, Colorado; daughter Mollie Shatek and husband Jason of Boulder, Colorado; grandchildren Andrew and Adelyn Shatek; sisters Anne Walsh and Mary Dum; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held at 9:00 AM on October 14th, 2022, followed by a Liturgy of the Word funeral service at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2030 West Colorado Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80904 with a reception to follow. Private inurnment to be held at St. Mary's Cathedral.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences. Barbara was a ray of sunshine wherever she went!

I first met Barbara at St. Francis Camp near Graymoor, New York.
She and Mary and I were counselors there. Her Mom was the camp nurse.

On one of my visits to her family in Yonkers, she tried to teach me ice skating. I never learned but also never forgot the fun we had. We remembered each other through the years.

I will share this news with the other women who were counselors with us.
I will also ask the Franciscan sisters at Graymoor to remember her in their prayers.

Thank you for sharing this news with me. You will all be in my prayers.

I enjoyed visiting with her on her walks through the neighborhood and sharing her love for her little dog, Rudy. I didn't realize that she was a fellow educator or we would have had even more to talk about. May God Bless her and her family.
