Barbara J. "Bobbe" Walton, 89, passed away November 22, 2020 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, due to complications of Alzheimer's Disease. She was born June 4, 1931, in Salida, Colorado to James and Emma (Coster) Medrano. She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers; and her husbands Vernon Garnier and Judge Norman Walton. Survivors include her son Gregory Garnier; brother Fred Medrano; sister Beverly Hulsey; and many nieces and nephews.
Born in Salida, Colorado, she witnessed incredible changes in her world, including the Great Depression and World War 2, all before graduating in 1949 from Salida High School. She was indeed a member of "The Greatest Generation."
Bobbe lived a full life as a wonderful mother, legal secretary, homemaker and leader in the Penrose Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary where she served as president. In 1982 she was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of her contribution of time and talent from the state of Colorado by then Governor Richard D. Lamm. The award was presented by Sister Myra James Bradley with whom Bobbe worked closely in her role as auxiliary president.
Bobbe began her career in the legal field at an early age. It was later during this time that she met her late husband, Judge Norman E. Walton. Their friendship grew for several years before they married.
Bobbe was instrumental in helping Norm build his career. When they first met, Norm was a golf pro at The Valley High Country Club and practiced law from a spare bedroom in his home. Bobbe felt if they were to marry then his legal career should take precedence over golf. Norm agreed under the condition that Bobbe would help him build his practice. What followed was a long and productive happy marriage and partnership until his death in 1982.
During this time the firm grew and prospered. Later Bobbe oversaw the acquisition of a new location for Norm's legal practice, when the last house that city founder Myron Stratton built, was purchased for the law firm's offices. Bobbe renovated and remodeled the gracious home ensuring the beauty and grandeur of the historic location was maintained while it served as law offices. Bobbe and Norm would semi-retire in 1979 and enjoy their new home, which, it should be noted, was built across the street from a golf course!
Bobbe loved to cook and entertain and kept an immaculate house. She was a small-town girl at heart and often referred to herself as "the little girl from Salida." That little girl from Salida will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
Per her wishes there will be no services. Donations can be made to the
Alzheimer's Association or any
charity of choice.
