Barbara Webb Obituary

Barbara Webb, a gracious, giving and inspiring woman who served as mentor and friend to so many, died peacefully in her home on New Year¹s Day with family members at her side. She was 94. A memorial service is at 4 p.m. Saturday, January 14 at the Chapel of Our Savior, 8 Fourth Street, with a reception to follow. An avid traveler, Barbara explored all seven continents. Such diverse adventures included Saudi Arabia, Petra, Jordan by camel and Antarctica shores in a zodiac at age 75. Africa became a favorite destination. She enjoyed train travel across Russia, China and India. In her 94 years, she logged visits to more than 750 of the destinations named in 1,000 Places to See Before you Die. Her family accompanied her on numerous four-generational trips, which she cherished. She nurtured and enjoyed unique, loving relationships with each of her family members, along with close friends who became like family. Sparked by her interest in art and archeology, Barbara participated in educational tours throughout Europe, Cambodia, Japan, Ecuador and Mexico. She relished her daily laps at the Broadmoor Lake with her walking group. In her 70s, she joined a hiking club, which opened up new trails and vistas to her. Born in New York City on March 19, 1917 to Maurice Flynn and Blanche Palmer, Barbara lived in Hollywood before moving to Switzerland where she attended school in Lausanne. She graduated from Ogontz Junior College and the Institute of Art in Philadelphia. While visiting relatives in Colorado Springs, she met Joel Webb, a Colorado Springs native. They married July 25, 1939, and made their permanent residence here. As a tireless volunteer, Barbara has worked in local and national politics, served as a nurse¹s aide and in the newborn nursery testing infants for hearing defects. Barbara was instrumental in founding and teaching in a Colorado Springs Day Care Center. Through the years she has volunteered in numerous organizations including The Junior League of Colorado Springs, Opera Theater of the Rockies, Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, McAllister House Museum, Pops on Ice, Colorado Springs Symphonic Guild, Pikes Peak Opera League, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo Auxiliary, Women's Educational Society of Colorado Springs, National Society of Colonial Dames and the Jefferson Davis Family Association. She was a member of the Garden of Gods Club and the Cheyenne Mountain Country Club. She is survived by her daughter Marka Moser of Edwards, Colo.; her son Davis Webb (Elizabeth Betsy) of Homer, Alaska; grandchildren, Mary Catherine Conger (Steven) of Carbondale, Colo.; Barbara Brugger of Annemasse, France; Michael Moser (Amy) of Wolcott, Colo.; Matthew Moser of Edwards and Taber Webb of Homer, Alaska; great grandchildren, Elisa Grandjean and Stefan Grandjean of Annemasse and Addison Moser of Wolcott and her brother John Bud Palmer of West Palm Beach, Fla. She was predeceased by her husband Joel A.H. Webb.
