Barboura Selby Obituary

Barboura "Barb" Selby, 90, a 50 year resident of Colorado Springs, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on November 13, 2015.

Barb was born in Bartonville, IL on December 30, 1924 to Martin and Elizabeth Firth. She was one of five children growing up in New Jersey. In 1942, after graduating from high school, she boarded a train for Palo Alto, California to be reunited with her mother, who was an RN running a nursing home. She helped her mother until she got a job working on the assembly line at a new company called Hewlett-Packard. Shortly thereafter, she accepted a secretarial position, where one of her duties was typing all of the employee's paychecks. However, she let Dave Packard, co-founder of HP, know her secretarial skills learned in high school were not being utilized. With that, he promoted her to executive secretary.

It was at HP that she met her future husband, Stan, an engineer. They were married in 1949 and moved to Loveland, CO in 1960. Stan managed the first HP site outside of California and Barb was the First Lady of HP in Colorado.

Together they raised four children, Sandy (E. David) Ascarelli, Kelley (Joe) Phillips of Colorado Springs; Corey of Hollister, CA, and Kirk who passed away in 2013. She has one granddaughter, Kellsey, Kirk's daughter.

Barb loved jazz and was a charter member of the Pikes Peak Jazz Society. She volunteered at Penrose Hospital. She was intelligent, classy, funny and a wonderful mother who loved family, friends, her home & garden and Tony Bennett.

At Barb's request, no funeral services will be held, but a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
