Benjamin Dickerson Obituary

Benjamin F. Dickerson, II began eternal life in the presence of Jesus Christ on Wednesday, May 9, 2007, after 65 years of faithful service to Him. While his great circle of loved ones sense the loss of his passing is too soon, they are grateful for the time the Lord gave him to sow and cultivate in their hearts countless seeds of knowledge of God's love and presence. He joins the blessed redeemed who preceded him in glory including his grandparents, parents, and brother, Charles Douglas Dickerson. Born March 6, 1942 in Moline, IL to Benjamin F. and Marjorie May (Hoge) Dickerson, he is survived by his beloved wife, Alice; his devoted children, Brent (Sheri), Kyle (Gena), and Sherene (James) McLemore; his darling grandchildren, Jeremiah and Karlyssa Dickerson, Dillon and Macy Dickerson, Jasmine, Jalyn, and James Edward McLemore; and his adoring sisters Diane Dickerson, and Jean (David) Coberly. He began his service to God and man as he grew up in north Denver where he achieved Eagle Scout. He went on to obtain Bachelor of Arts from University of Colorado at Boulder, Master of Divinity from California Baptist Theological Seminary, and Doctor of Ministry from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He ministered in numerous ways including pastor of HPBC, marriage and family enrichment and counseling, and teaching. However, Ben's true passion was to serve in any way anyone asked and every place he saw a need. He fully accepted every person as they were and walked along side them with Christ-like compassion, encouragement, and patience, and with a true spirit of humility. He is lovingly remembered as Gentle Ben. His ultimate earthly joy was spending time with his grandchildren and they will be forever blessed by the legacy of his spiritual character. It would please Ben exceedingly for all who know and love him to give all glory to Christ Jesus. A worship service to celebrate Christ and His gift of life in Ben will be held at Highland Park Baptist Church, 2315 North Circle Drive (at Maizeland), Colorado Springs, CO 80909 on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at 2 o'clock p.m. In lieu of flowers, Ben would most appreciate your tributes to support Highland Park Baptist Church Benevolent Fund (http://www.highlandparkthesprings.org) or Interfaith Hospitality Network of Colorado Springs (http://www.ihn-cos.org/).

Dear Alice & Ben's wonderful family,
I remember working with Ben & Alice when I was in my early 20's, back in the CME days. I was learning to be a customer service person & secretary. Ben & Alice were always so patient with me! It was such a rewarding and joyful place to work, with people like the Dickersons, and with my parents, the Walthers. I met so many wonderful people through this Christian non-profit organization. The office setting was so beautiful and peaceful- just like Ben Dickerson. Something I will always remember is that Ben's eyes were bright, sparkling, happy, and they showed true joy in them. Gentle Ben is so befitting. Alice always smiled, too, and I will always appreciate the support and friendship that they have shown our family. During a crisis in my first marriage, Ben & Alice were so very supportive. I am also grateful for the strength that Alice and Ben showed as a couple--a testimony in today's society! I know that those final days together must have been so hard for the family, and I really care.
With genuine sympathy and loving concern,
E. Jane "EJ" Walther Booth & Charles Arthur Booth (Children - Stacia 22; Trenton 17; Emily 15; Sasha 7).

Hello, Ben joined our group, Pikes Peak Sales Professionals, right before his heart attack. We feel badly that we never had a chance to get to know him well. Our most sincere condolences to his family and friends!

Although I only knew Mr Dickerson as a child, I will always remember how nice he was and how dedicated he was to his family and friends. I remember one thing specifically. When he was an executive at CME, he took on a project to send out a several page pamphlet to some 10,000 plus people. I remember him saying, after being up all night two nights in a row, that 10,000 doesnt seem like a lot until you try it. I also said to him 'I bet a nap sounds pretty good right now' He laughed and said, you know, im so tired that a shower sounds better!' My thoughts and prayers go out to you. We will all see him again when the time comes.

You have all been in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. The obituary is a very well written tribute and summary of Ben's life and his ultimate desire to know Christ and make Him known.

We wish we could be with you at this time but know that our love and prayers are coming to you.

We praise God for the years we were privileged to work daily with Ben and Alice in service to couples and families for Our Lord, Jesus Christ. Ben's love was very deep--for his Lord, his life's partner and best friend Alice, his family and his friends. His Christ-like compassion seemed boundless. He always saw the best in others. At times quiet and pensive, he was always thinking ahead as to how he next could reach out to someone who was hurting. Ben was ever a bright spot in our day. His creative sense of humor brought smiles and joy even in trying times. We are so much richer in spirit for having been blessed to know, love, and work with this dear brother so full of compassion, wisdom, loyalty, and deep caring.

There has never been a man like your husband/father. He was the closest man I have ever seen to what the Bible says about Jesus. You were truly blessed! My favorite memory of Ben was the time we all went camping and your dad took everyone on a motorcyle ride. I was terrified of motorcycles and never went. After Ben put everything away and we were ready to leave, I jokingly said "oh and I was just about ready to take a ride" (I wasn't!!) And Ben took the bike out and said let's go. Now Ben was my pastor, a man and a special friend... where in the world do you hold on?? We took over very slowly - thank you Ben - and got stuck in the creek. Gentle Ben -- He was a treasure here and I will along with you miss him terribly. Blessings to each one of you, Anita
