Dear Maria and Hugh,
I worked with Bernie at Dr. Bennings and was informed of her passing just today. Bernie was a light in my life for a very long time. While working together, we would often spend off time together going to movies, shopping or just hanging out at her place. Once, when Shizuka was in Colorado, the three of us went to my parents cabin in Divide, lit a cozy fire, played cards, and laughed the night away. The next morning we awoke to a snowstorm, Bernie worried about being stuck for days, so we got in my car and headed home, but not before getting my car stuck in the snow a few time before getting to the main road. Bernie and Shizuka had to push us out. We arrived safely back to my parents house in the Springs, a little tired and a lot muddy! She attended our wedding and had a special place in my husband, Dans, heart. Although we kept in touch for several years after I moved from Colorado, we eventually lost track of each other. Dan and I were so saddened to hear of Bernie's passing. We remember her fondly and I will forever remember her beautiful smile, and kind heart. Our Prayers are with you.

I was so sorry to hear of Bernie's passing. She is such a beautiful woman. I remember sitting with her and sharing about life and family. She loved her little Maria and still does. She was such a long awaited blessing to her and to Hugh. I thank God for allowing me to have Bernie as part of my life. I look forward to the day we can be together in the Lord's presence. I prayed for so long for Bernie's healing and God has answered. She is now more vibrant than she ever was here on earth. God bless you all. Love Ellen and Doug

It was on May 12th, I had Bernie's dream. She wore a wedding dress. It was a beautiful. Maybe she came to say Goodbye to Japan. In her actural wedding, I served as a Bridesmaid. Hugh's father and I walked the virgin Road. My body shook and rattled. But it was very grateful experience. "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue." Then, she had honeymoon millennium baby. In 2000, the long-waited birth of girl, MARIA! Blessed by many people. Bernie became a good mother, Hiroko became a grandmother, I became an aunt(?). You have done a great job! Please rest in peace.
