Bernadine Nordby Obituary

Bernadine "Bunny" Nordby, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, age 91, passed away on April 1st, Palm Sunday, at Namaste Alzheimer's Center. Preceding her in death were her father, Henry O. Brenna, her mother, Bessie Ovidia Julson Brenna, and three of her four siblings. She is survived by Vance, her husband of 71 years; her four children, Saundra (Richard) Lee, Larry (Amy) Nordby, Marilyn (Brad) Kuhn, Tammy (James) Kirk; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and her sister Betty. She was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota, graduated from Central High School, and married Vance R. Nordby on November 16th, 1940. When Vance joined the Army Air Corps, she also joined the war effort and made inflatable life belts for the troops. After the war, she and Vance moved to Mankato, Minnesota where they opened Nordby Upholstery. They moved to Denver, Colorado in 1958 where they continued in the upholstery business. In the late 70's and early 80's she owned and operated Bunny's Day Care in Thornton, Colorado. Since moving to Colorado Springs in 2000 to be near her children, she has been a homemaker. She loved the Denver Broncos, tending her flowers and playing her piano. She was an artist and loved to paint. She had a flair for making their home warm, cozy and welcoming. She loved to watch the many birds that visited their bird feeders. She was also very health conscious, and walked daily. Up until the last few years of her life, no one could walk faster than she and Vance! She was a member of First Lutheran Church, and missed being able to attend services there in her last years. The family will receive visitors at a visitation Monday, April 9, 2012 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Swan Law Funeral Directors. A memorial service celebrating Bernadine's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday April 10th at First Lutheran Church, 1515 North Cascade Avenue Colorado Springs, CO 80907. Burial will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. Memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of First Lutheran Church

My condolences to those in the Nordby family. I've never met Bunny but I have a wonderful photo of her I'd like to share. Bunny was my father, Sterling McCarty's first cousin. Sterling was son to Selma, brother to Joyce Johnson. I've been working on a family tree for the Julson's, including Bessie and her siblings, which I'd be happy to share as well. Please contact me at 763-221-2892 or [email protected]. Or, Corrine McCarty, 3910 Noble Ave N, Robbinsdale, MN 55422
My best to you all on this sad occasion.

Bunny was my 1st. cousin. My mother, Selma, was the sister of Bunny's mother, Bessie. I talked with Bunny when I was up in Colorado Springs visiting a few years back. She was a lovely person and will be missed. Joyce MCCARTY Johnson
