Betsey Stoker Obituary

Betsey C. (Provines) Stoker, 85, passed away September 23, 2015, at Collier Hospice Center in Wheat Ridge, CO. Betsey was born on April 24, 1930, in Rapid City, SD, to Omer E. Provines and Eva E. (Stevens) Provines. The family moved to Longmont, CO, when Betsey was in primary school.

Betsey graduated from Colorado A&M in 1952 with a degree in Nutrition and Food Science. After completing a dietetic internship at the Colorado State Hospital in Pueblo, CO, she went on to a 40 year career as a Registered Dietician at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO, retiring in 1994. Betsey married Marvin J. Stoker, in Colorado Springs, CO, October 20, 1956, and had one child - Penney L. (Stoker) Varner.

Marvin and Betsey moved to Rawlins, WY, in 1998. Betsey enjoyed activities at the Rawlins Senior and Community Centers. She loved to dance, play cards, bingo, was the first on board for any casino trip, and went on many excursions with the Rawlins Heritage Club. Betsey also enjoyed many hours of volunteering at the Rawlins Nursing Home.

Betsey was preceded in death by her parents, Omer E. and Eva E. (Stevens) Provines of Longmont, CO; sister Nellie O. (Provines) Felps and brother in law Robert W. Felps of Ft. Lupton, CO; and brother and sister in law William and Doris Jean Stoker of Denver, CO.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years Marvin J. Stoker of Denver, CO; daughter Penney (Stoker) Varner (John) of Encampment, WY; brother in law Dale Stoker, of Pueblo, CO; nephew Karol Stoker (Cindy Ramthun) of Longmont, CO; nieces Jeannine (Stoker) Belson of Denver, CO; Colleen (Stoker) Harvey (Scott) of Richland, WA; and Laura Stoker, of Pueblo, CO.

A graveside service was held at Mountain View Cemetery in Longmont, CO, on October 16, 2015. Condolences may be sent to Marvin Stoker, 1667 St. Paul Street, Denver, CO 80206.

The family respectfully requests donations in Betsey's memory be considered and sent to the Rawlins Senior Center, P.O. Box 111, Rawlins, WY 82301. Memorial donations will help the Center fulfill its goal of purchasing much needed new dining room chairs.
