Betsy Philips Obituary

Betsy Philips joined her Lord and Savior on December 9, 2008. Betsy was born to Powell and Ruby Ellis on September 12, 1943 in Welch, West Virginia and raised in Richlands, Virginia. In 1968, Betsy married the love of her life, John “Jack Sloan Philips Jr., and, in 1972 they were blessed to become parents. In 1973, Betsy and Jack moved to Colorado Springs. In 1980 she graduated from nursing school but lost her husband not long after to Multiple Sclerosis. In 1983, she opened up “The American Skin. Betsy loved helping people to look beautiful and, most of all, feeling better about themselves. For the next 25 years, Betsy took care of other people. Betsy is survived by her daughter, Sloan, her son-in-law, Mark, and her three beautiful grandchildren, 2-year old Jocelyn and 2-month old twins, Adelyn and Mason. She is also survived by her sisters Libby Ratliff and Kathy Davis, her nieces Libby Jo Smith, Didi Haase, Amy Crowder, and her nephew, David Davis. Betsy was an entrepreneur, a women’s activist, and a loving and caring mother and grandmother. She was a positive, fun-loving, hard-working person who loved life, her family, her friends, and her pets. She was a brilliant woman with a zest for life. She was unconventional and relished the road less traveled; she was the strongest person I knew. She wasn’t afraid to take chances, to start anew and never failed to encourage others to “create a wonderful day for yourself. I love you mom and I miss you! A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Friday, March 6th, at 2pm. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the National MS Society, (303) 698 7400 in memory of Betsy and Jack Philips.

I am one of many woman touched by Betsy and her wonderful spirit. I had known her for probably 20 years, but didn't get to see her as often as I would have liked because I lived in California most of that time. When I went back I'd try to see her happy & beautiful face and get that big hug. She was a wonderful person and I send my sincerest sympathy to Sloan and the family she cherished.

I am a former patient of Betsy's. She was a very kind and honest person. My thoughts and prayers go out to Betsy's family.

I worked in Betsy's office for only a few months, but Betsy fast became a special friend. We spent many late hours touring the Bible together. I feel her absence in my life greatly, but I know there is yet another angel in Heaven. Betsy was a treat to everyone, and indeed, a very special person.
